I have some news to share! 15:40 - Dec 28 with 3671 viewscbower

Following a thread reply to a question to me from Mullet today, I think I should share some news with the Forum. Many of you will know that in Autumn 2023 I was diagnosed with Level 9 Prostate Cancer. Well, after almost a year of constant treatment, Chemotherapy, a 5 hour operation called Brachytherapy and 20 session of what was described as 'radical' radiotherapy, to the surprise of both myself and frankly the Oncologist too, on December 6th I was told the cancer is 'currently undetectable' and I'm in remission. Can't quite believe it. yes, it's done me in somewhat and I will be tested every 4-6 months but I have a chance I really wasn't expecting .
Upon diagnosis, I urged all men on here of a certain age to get themselves checked out. I had virtually no symptoms and thought getting up for a pee maybe twice a night was just a part of being in my mid 50s. I reiterate that call today. PLEASE FELLAS, GO AND GET CHECKED. IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.

Great news. I get my prostrate checked regularly now. Biggest form of cancer in men over 50. 1 in 8 men will get it in their lifetime. So yes, so important to get checked if you're in that group.

That's terrific news. For those wishing to get tested, the charity CHAPS do screening events locally and elsewhere.

Meh. It’s hardly on a level with having a shoe knicked, is it?

A HUGE congratulations . Absolute barsteward of a disease, so I’m so glad for you that you kicked the fecker into touch. And I hope you can steer clear of it from now on. Having had a scare 12 months ago (which luckily just turned out to just be an infection), I echo the advice about getting checked out if you notice anything different - It’s very straightforward and could literally save your life or at worse put your mind to rest.

We had Professor Chris Booth, a retired oncologist who started the charity, on Life's a Pitch a few years back. He told me that the last event they'd had at Town they had 250 men attend, something like 17 tests required a further look and four of those showed signs of prostate cancer.

Can I just add that if you have a blood test and your PSA level is higher than the recommended level please don't panic. Most men in their 50s and above will get an enlarged prostate and that will elevate their PSA level.

What great news to get and good of you to share it on here. Can’t agree more on the importance of getting yourselves checked out chaps. Early intervention can save a lot of grief. Have been through radiotherapy for prostate cancer myself and am still on regular checkups. Couldn’t believe the attitudes of some people l know when l told them what had happened and urged them to get tested. One said, and l quote, “I’d rather not know than go through all that”, and another said he couldn’t possibly discuss it with his doctor as she was a woman.
If you want to hear some great discussions on cancer in men generally, but a lot of stuff on prostate cancer, check out the podcast John Holmes Says the C Word on BBC sounds.

I think more fear having 'Doctor Sausage fingers".

Apparently some men pay ladies to do it to them on a regular basis. Or so a friend tells me, honest.
