But we've conceded a couple of goals when there has been no communication between Muric and O'Shea. The last minute goal against Brentford springs to mind.

Then at the end of the game last night O'Shea gos out of his way to push Walton to the front in order for him to do the Harry Clarke fist pump.

Has our defence has some input into Muric being dropped last night.

I think you’re reading too much into it.

However I would say that the defence looked so much more relaxed with Walton in goal than they have done with Muric behind them.

I would imagine that's more about showing appreciation to Walton for being patient whilst not playing, continuing to work hard in training etc. And then performing when given the channce.

I've seen this comment a few times but not any examples of what people mean. Is it just because he played less short, risky passes? I think that was instruction from KM if anything.

It’s not only O’Shea, it’s ALL our defenders including Johnson and Davis look more confident with Walton in goal. Players don’t hesitate to pass back or leave it because they are sure beforehand of what Walton will do. No fear of miscommunication or a kamikaze move by the keeper. Also just look at how Walton marshals the defence for set pieces you don’t see Muric doing that.

If fans are sh*ting bricks when the ball is with Muric or when he is pressed by the opposition can you imagine how our defenders feel?

Those goals always seemed weird considering O'Shea and Muric played together last year as well.

I agree.

Chelsea were all over us last night and we were rock solid. I think the players are more confident with Walton.

It's a shame as Muric is a beast and pulls off some cracking saves, he is also fantastic with crosses. The problem is, he's a fecking air head.

I think the calm and organising presence of Woolfy these last couple of games has also helped.

He is perfect for a back 3 as the sweeper.

Yeah agreed - I said to mates a few weeks ago that Muric would be a top keeper if he wasn’t a bit thick.

Even in the Fulham game early on Woolf was getting on at Muric for taking to long on the ball.

Not surprised about Nathan, he’s been knocking on the door. Re Walton, wonder if KM’s had one to one, off the record convos and been told by several players that they’re nervous with Muric between the sticks.

Anyway, whatever the result, if through choice and not forced, well done KM, brave of him.

To be fair, Walton was very close to getting caught on the ball a couple of times last night.

But to come in and play like that, making the saves he did (especially the one on to the bar) and to get the result we did - he'd have gone to bed very happy.

There has been multiple times this season where DOS has been less than impressed with Muric and really let him know about it.

What I will also say about DOS is that he is a real leader, so vocal on the pitch. Always talking.

McKenna has sensibly tried to let Muric down gently, talking about him having a minor thigh injury & bigging up Walton, but I'm sure the reality is that he's realised Walton might be the better all round keeper so I can see him getting a run of games.

Strange focus on this. If we switch from a keeper whose saves are great but whose kamikaze moments have directly led to goals against us and dropped points on a number of occasions to a keeper whose saves are great but whose "kamikaze moments" lead to near misses from which we don't concede, that's maybe not perfect, but an improvement, surely? Particularly if the latter keeper doesn't cause the defence a conniption every time he has a second to think about what he's going to do with the ball.

it's one game! Let's be careful about reading too much into it. They've looked equally comfortable in many games with Muric playing and in others it;s been near panic (though not sure if that's because of him). I think we need to wait to see how this plays out before we come to conclusions. Bottom line is that the whole team, from front to back played out of their skin last night and for the first time this season got what they deserved.

Agree with this, but it's typical McKenna to get this kind of performance from him and make him feel valued.

Reminds me a little of when we were in the Prem the very first time, and dear old Frank Yallop adapted well to a sweeper role

And I recall our last relegation from the PL. Sereni played really well in the first half of the season, but he either asked for a "rest" or was dropped after his horror show on a dodgy pitch at Charlton & from then on GB flip-flopped between Sereni & Marshall, which did nothing for either's confidence.

Without being spectacular, Walton is consistent and reliable- you know where his starting position will be, he doesn’t erratically punch balls he could catch or come flying out of his goal without good reason, his distribution is also more consistent and purposeful both short and long.

On top of that, he’s capable of pulling off some fine saves, as we saw last night when he tipped Palmer’s effort over the bar!

I doubt we will see Muric between the sticks in a league game for the rest of the season.

Be great if fans don't use a great performance from Walt as a stick to beat Muric with , as KM said last night we are lucky to have 2 really good keepers at the club , for me anything else is unhelpful .

I noticed that it was O'Shea pushing Walton forward to do the first pumps. Purely speculation, but I feel Muric has a purely professional relationship with the rest of the squad, whereas Walton is "one of the gang." It just appeared to me that the players were SO happy for him to be playing.

There's other things, like Szmodics yelling, "what is he doing?!" when Muric lumped a long ball to him. I don't feel like the players particularly rate Muric
