Kalvin Phillips - Not even a transfer whisper to anyone .... 13:27 - Jul 29 with 2915 viewsBellevue_Blue

By all accounts, he did not have a brilliant season last year, however I am surprised that we have reached the start of August and I have not seen him linked with anyone.

I guess he could be holding out for some kind of comp based release? Or maybe he's just not good enough for the PL, too expensive for anyone else?

This is not me suggesting he should be back here. We need battle hardened reinforcements that can play their part in 50+ games this year and hopefully add value next year.

He hasn't done himself any favours in either of his loan spells and I'd imagine that clubs will not get anywhere near his wages that Citeh are paying him.

I'd assumed he would just end up back at Leeds but that hasn't happened.

I'd definitely take him back if the terms were right.

Technically very good, experienced, but injured too much last season. Can we guarantee that doesn't happen again? Plus wildly expensive for the Championship.

I thought someone suggested he had minor surgery over the summer but I might have wires crossed. It would answer why things are quiet around him.

Terms would have to be favourable as I say - if he's sitting on the shelf towards the end of the window and we can make it work I don't think you could get a better player than him as a squad player at this level.

One of those where the pressure is more on City than him.

Why sign him now on 50% of his wages when you can push it back a bit and sign him on 25% in the last week of the window?

Truly impaired.

You're right. Achilles, not expected to be back fit until August.

Would definitely have him back, would be silly for anyone to say that's not a good idea aslong as city pick up most his wages.

Terrible record over the last two seasons. His is still on a huge contract at man city, and it runs until something like 2028. Unless city loan him out for free and cover his wages nobody will take him

Absolutely no chance.

Was fed one or two anecdotes recently and it's fair to say the fire has gone out for him. If he doesn't join Leeds, I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire.

I agree, if he could stay fit for any length of time. So... no

As I said in a recent thread, has to be cheap, has to be fit, and we have to be desperate - but potentially great for the Championship. Lot's of ifs.

That further reduces the likelihood of anyone wanting to take a chance on him. City are stuck with paying him £150k a week & he's not going to get anywhere near their squad. They might try to loan him out for a pittance just to give him something to do. He seems to have had injury issues even before joining City & it the last few years must have been frustrating for him, although it's hard to feel to sorry for someone to whom City will have paid over £46m before tax.

He should drop down to non-League, play as a bustling Butragueno style False 9, score a hat trick every week and fall back in love with the game!

Or ditto, just in Saudi or USA, for more cash.

Maybe not... But he needs a complete shake up and change of everything, including position in my opinion, to give him a new perspective and different challenges.

Plus, didn't do f#ck all even when he was fit.

We need to learn from our mistakes.... don't get all starry-eyed over a big name coming to this little old club. It was a gamble which didn't pay off and hopefully we learnt from it.

Still blinded by his name / reputation. He was awful for us, no wonder all of our wins came in games he didn't play.

I don't think the owners of the rental he had for the time he was here would be so keen.

Why? He looked washed up to me.

Seemed a nice bloke and he got on with the other players. Used to be a fantastic player too. But he was miles off it last season in every way. It seemed like a good punt this time last year. A real difference maker and in a sense he was. Our midfield disappeared just about every game. Not all his fault but of all the loanee punts I’ve seen, he worked out as one of the poorest for cost/contribution.
