It's a shame that the campaign is ending, but can see why big organisations wouldn't want anything to do with Stonewall currently.

Hopefully it can come again in some form

Good to see the connection with Stonewall being dropped.

They should still wear unaffiliated rainbow armbands if they wish though.

Truly impaired.

Yeah, the article suggests so - not until February though.

Should never have been an issue in the first, putting players like Morsy with their beliefs in an impossible situation. Black armband with 'captain' should be standard.

Does not actively supporting something (in this case choosing not to wear a rainbow armband) that goes against someone’s personal beliefs impinge on human rights any more than making them wear it.

Sexuality is not a choice, and someone should be free to live how they see fit. People should not be discriminated against for their sexuality and the countries that actively persecute the individuals for it are archaic and horrendous.

However if someone does not approve personally for religious or any other reason, why should they be made to actively act in favour of it, that’s not right either.

Not sure, my point was more about passive individual choice rather than state mandated legislation.

I’ve not personally seen what has caused Stonewall to be disliked so much, however by removing this campaign in the Premier League alongside stonewall to include different sexualities, the Premier League do need to be careful that they do have a campaign in February that they say they will do.

There have been no openly gay premier league players still, which doesn’t help those growing up to feel included in football. Like I said, I don’t know if Stonewall is the problem, but it comes across as they are removing the campaign because a couple of Captains won’t contribute to the campaign because of their beliefs or agree with being gay. That to me, makes it worse for the young gay footballers who are hiding who they are and don’t feel included.

In my opinion, if they remove one type of inclusive campaign, they should remove all. Football is very diverse now. Religion should not be part of this either, religion is a choice, being gay, black, female isn’t.

No it's not. It would just be colours if such a big thing wasn't made about it. Trying to shame someone in supporting a cause that they don't agree with is wrong. My point was it has no place in football. It's always been a black armband till someone decided to foist the rainbow on people.

‘supporting a cause’ - what do you perceive the ‘cause’ to be?

the premier league needs to develop its own strategy to replace it. it's very sad that stonewall has gone so badly wrong but many organisations are now rightly distancing themselves from them.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Sexuality shouldn’t be something that people should ‘believe in’. It’s sad that we have to actively support it because so many people are against it.

It’s 2025. Beliefs are no excuse for discrimination.

The gap to February doesn't send out a very good message.

Sadly, and especially with Trump at the helm, inclusion is rather on the backfoot in all sorts of settings.

I thought gambling was also forbidden by Islam. Couldn't wear a rainbow armband for one day but could pump Unibet for a season. Sam Morsy was a great captain but that incident really disappointed me.

Aye, that’s how I felt about it too.

I respect his right to his own personal beliefs, but as captain of Ipswich Town he is representing people of different gender, sexuality, race, religion, etc.

Clearly as you’ve evidenced with the photo, there is flexibility in his personal interpretation of Islam, it’s just his personal choice that it apparently doesn’t extend to gay people…

Yep. Exactly how I feel too.

I lost my respect for him about this and that’s why he will never been a club legend for me.

Hell of a player, but doesn’t represent the inclusiveness I would expect of my club.

The problem is that you can only be your authentic self if everyone agrees. Freedom of voice and or thoughts is fine. Be we all have different thoughts and we don’t all respect each others. Not campaign will ever truly cover this. It can only ever be education, broadening people’s horizons. Not enforcement.
