Jewell: Bullard Deal Just Can't Be Done Monday, 13th Jun 2011 14:18
Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that the club has ended its pursuit of former loanee Jimmy Bullard. The 32-year-old Hull City midfielder spent a hugely successful spell at the club in the second half of the season and won the the Blues' Player of the Year award but the Town manager says the financial side of the deal is beyond the club at present.
Jewell said: “Jimmy was great for us and we were good for Jimmy but realistically it just isn’t going to happen.”
The Blues boss says he talked to Tigers director of football operations Adam Pearson last night but the deal just can’t be done: “We just can’t afford to pay what Hull want and what Jimmy wants.
"He’s not just on a Premier League contract, he’s on a top Premier League contract.”
Jewell had been keen to sign his former Wigan player on a permanent basis but always admitted that with Bullard having two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at Hull it would be a very difficult deal for Town to do. Hull are unwilling to loan the former Peterborough and Fulham man unless a large proportion of his wages are paid by the loaning club.
Bullard has been reported to have been in talks with QPR in recent weeks, while Norwich, West Ham and Wigan have also been linked.
The one-time England call-up made 16 appearances for Town having signed on loan in January, scoring five goals.

JB: "It's not about money, it's about playing football". Yeah, right! I'm glad in a way as when he was in the side, the rest of the team seemed to drop in confidence. It's was like the ball became a hot potato and were trying to off-load it to JB at every opportunity.

Which suggests Bullard must be on for a Prem move.

So it seems like the Hull fans that came onto this site were telling the truth!!

Seems Jimmy's ...."its not about money", and "money is everything" is all sounding familiar and a tad hollow from these professional footballers that all want to be loved , and hero worshipped, yet just under the surface are only really in it for "THE LOOOOOOT" (quote R.Kelly)

No surprise , gave up on that idea a while ago to be honest. We do need a creative midfielder ready for next season though.

Jimmy "It's not about the money" Bullard. PJ is being kind here, it's got little to do with what Hull wants, it's all about the wages. Could he have made it through August let alone a full championship year?

So Mr.Evans shows his true colours. Wants to get in the Premier League that much that he won't supply the finds needed to get there..., It's about time he got his wallet out & stopped giving managers pocket change. We won't get in the Play-offs let alone PL with the likes of Ingarmarrsson. Get the check book out Evans...

This is no surprise at all. Any player that negotiates his own contracts and then says it's not about money is flat out lying. What sort of mugs do you take us all for? Having said that he did bring something to the team and I thank him for that. But we will be just fine without him and the strain on the bank account.

Throwing money at the situation does NOT guantee promtion - but careful player selection and getting the best out of them individually and collective often can result in promotion. ...and for the record its "Cheque" , not Check book !

I don't know why people are sitting on here slagging of Bullard without knowing the in's and out's. Would you leave your work to go somewhere else on half the salary? No i thought not. He was here for 3 months and realistically why would he have the same loyalty as we all do having supported Town our whole lives? Good luck Jimmy and thanks for the effort when you were here on loan. Top player who deserves to be playing in the premier league.

@IP3 Correct me if I'm wrong but we have just signed Chopra for 1.5M haven't we? We didn't get into the Play-offs with Bullard, give Ingarmarrson a chance. Paying through the nose for Bullard really isn't worth it. Otherwise Hull wouldn't be trying to get rid of him, they'd be back in the Premier League using your logic.

@clive_baker - No people wouldn't move jobs for half the salary, but we wouldn't say it's not about the money @i just want to work' either. You can't only qoute half the story as an argument!

Not too dissapointed to be honest, at least it puts the speculation to an end. No doubting he played a massive part in keeping us up but more importantly he showed us what we were really missing in our midfield. I cant help thinking that if we'd stretched ourselves to getting him him he would've become a financial liability and mayhave prevented us getting in some better long term targets. Thanks for what you did for us Jimmy, lets see how many games you actually play for whoever you end up with.

Agree with you Clive. Can't believe the people now turning against Jimmy ! For goodness sake football is a short career and you have to make your money in a few years. Good luck Jimmy and thanks for putting a smile on our faces

had Jimmy had a bad loan spell with us i think hull would have found a way to off load him.i think hull should give us a cut of what ever they get for him as we showed them what a player he was and he couldn't get in their side.pity we weren't allowed to use him in the game against arsenal,it could have been a different story.thanks Jimmy you brought some football back to what was becoming a long ball team...all the best
