Town Make Bid for Bunn
Thursday, 3rd Aug 2017 14:42

TWTD understands Town have now made a bid for Huddersfield winger Harry Bunn.

Reports earlier in the week claimed the Blues were ready to make a move for the 24-year-old, who is said to be valued at around £600,000, and we understand a firm offer has now been made.

Bunn has been in Austria with the Terriers squad ahead of their first ever Premier League season but was left out of the squad which drew 3-3 with VfB Stuttgart in a friendly on Tuesday without explanation.

The 5ft 9in tall wideman started his career with Manchester City during which time he spent time on loan at Rochdale, Preston, hometown club Oldham, Crewe, Sheffield United and Huddersfield, who he subsequently joined on a permanent basis in January 2014.

Since that switch Bunn, the son of ex-Oldham frontman Frankie, has made 70 starts and 28 sub appearances, scoring 17 goals.

Primarily a left-sided winger although right-footed, Bunn can also operate centrally in midfield or in a more advanced role behind a main striker.

While a fourth striker remains a priority for Town, wide midfield is another area where there Blues have been looking to strengthen. You can Read Mullet’s TWTD blog on Bunn here.

Him and a striker! Might not be a bad team! Just please get a decent first team straight away player if we do, not a one for the future or hasn't played for 3 years so needs 6 months to et fit, still kick ourselves we didn't go for Chris wood when he was on loan with us,

Hopefully get this one done. Huddersfield fans seem to think he'd be a solid Championship signing. Just hope this is as well as a striker and not instead of.

Hope we get this done as he is a proven player at this level.

Agree we also need striker & centre half.

I hope this is a decent bid and not 'he is valued @ £600k so we bid £150k!'

We will see..

Just read the linked article there from Mullet... makes a very good Bunn case, to be fair.

I'm already struggling to figure who our first choice wingers are without another one that will be ruined by Mick's system.
When we are short of strikers I find this a confusing priority.

Activity is activity though, atleast that's something I guess

Just don't get this. Is it groundhog day? Every season we try to buy wingers and every season we play a brand of football that doesn't involve them. Everyone knows that to get out of this division you need to score goals, just like Murphy did to get us in the play-offs. Currently our options are a bloke who is totally unproven at Championship level, another who went on the longest scoring drought last season of any striker we have ever had and another one who is incapable of staying fit. BUY A PROVEN GOALSCORER.

All new signings are good news, signing more wingers at least shows some intent, we just need a big fella to get on the end of them crosses now.

Brownie, I was thinking exactly the same. Get the deal done Ipswich, he'd be a very welcome addition. Just hoping that a striker is lined up too. Got my fingers crossed that perhaps the Ashley Barnes rumours earlier in the week had an element of truth?!

I'm sure Bunn will be charged with raisin the quality of play on the wings.

£600,000 that's a lot of dough for one Bunn ...
So where is the striker you promised to sign before the start of the new season McCarthy.

We have no plan we're just going to be winging it this season.

Bet he's looking to play 4231 and not get the striker, play garner by himself and say we got bun instead and it didn't fit our system

'Carberry' I totally agree with you, however what proven goalscorers at this level are we realistically going to attract as I can't name any? I think we've done well to bring Garner in who has been scoring goals pre-season, who's to say that won't continue... I think Garner will be a nice surprise for us all this year. Completely agree with what you're saying, but we'd do very well with the type of football that is played to attract anyone... Especially with the money we're happy to part with.. If any!
