The start of the year saw them playing tiny 30 capacity upstair venues - by the end of the year they were supporting the Foo Fighters.

I can definitely see where you are coming from.
She's got that nasally Australian accent going on. I think it's just about acceptable when she's singing.
As for Kurt Vile, isn't his singing style just the same as J Mascis?

In terms of debuts I really like The Sherlocks: Live for the Moment.
