It's just utterly depressing watching us 10:05 - Feb 2 with 42745 viewsitfcjoe

I sat until the bitter end to see the players and management team leave the pitch, and PR is becoming a depressing place again - like it has been for a while.

I just can't workout how we can't get a team of talented footballers at this level playing above themselves and the sum of their parts.

It goes back to the rotation for me, of styles, shapes and personnel - we just don't look anything close to where we should be and it is no surprise the well organised teams at the top of this league make us look distinctly second best.

I was fairly positive and a bit bullish after we'd finally settled on something and seemed to be clicking, but it has come unstuck and hard to see it turning back round. We'll do enough to stay in the top 6, but no one will fear us in the play offs.

The club is in my blood, and is my life - I can't give up on it even if I wanted to, but it is so frustrating, seeing the mistakes being made and us continuously go down the wrong path.

Why can't Evans see this? What is he waiting for or doing here?

1) I can’t be a*sed to trawl back through to when you were claiming inside knowledge on our investment last season and insisting that we had actually spent more than we received due to agents fees, loan fees and sell ons (as non-agents wouldn’t understand these things apparently). Funny that the accounts suggested the opposite isn’t it?

2) No, it was 1 January. https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2020/january/lambert-signs-new-contract-at-ipswich/

3) I didn’t say you did, read it again

1) Actually, the figures confirmed my account. The add ons won't be in the transfer fee will they? Phil confirmed my figures. Read the story about agent fees. I think you will find mine was SPOT - ON. There is a huge difference between gross and net. #

2) NO, It was agreed in October and only confirmed in January. It was discussed in numerous interviews that you must have missed.

3) Why bother mentioning it.

1) Feel free to link Phil confirming your figures. Not sure what you’re on about add ons, there were add-ons in the sales we made that wouldn’t have been included either

2) According to Phil, who actually does have some insight, discussions had begun towards the end of 2019 but the deal was only finalised when it was announced. Would like to know your basis for thinking it was agreed in October, other than imaginary connections?

3) Because in your post you said that people were not critical of Evans decisions at the time and it was only with hindsight, specifically referencing the Lambert extension. Whereas in fact most people were up in arms at the news

1) Phil posted an article on agent fees. Mine was spot on.

2) Add ons are not just the additional cost or income of a transfer deal. The gross figure may include sign on fees, agent fees, VAT, exchange rates, medical fees, merchandise deals etc. We only see the net on here. The same as wages, we rarely consider the costs of actually employing people over and above their salaries.

3) No, i didn't. I said the contract extension was agreed in October when we were top of the table and fewer posters were critical of Lambert. Lambert himself confirmed that and i dont consider him - or want him to be a connection.

1) Feel free to link that. Meanwhile I’ll link the following article from Phil confirming that we made a large profit on player trading in the last financial year, with only a minimal increase in wages and other costs. Would welcome your insight into where all those costs go if they’re not in the club accounts

Town Announce £3.2m Loss 16th Dec 2019 19:45
Town have announced a loss before tax of £3.2 million in the year to the end of June 2019. 49

2) Yes, I am aware there are additional costs, see above. However it is plainly obvious that the large sums we brought in last season were not fully reinvested

3) Again, feel free to link where Lambert has confirmed that the contract extension was signed in October

I said, at the time that the agent fees for the year will be getting on for a million. I was close. That should be eas to find on Phil's news articles.

The listed fees will have other costs included that we won't see as a net figure - why more and more are listed as undisclosed. In many cases, a £1m signing will be the figure plus VAT, so 200k VAT that the buying club will obviously claim back [Just a random example]. It's simply how the figures are presented and by whom.

In a Lambert interview, he was asked about his contract and he said it was agreed back in October. He said it himself. I was annoyed at the time as he seemed quite arrogant - almost mocking of the fans with it.

The question was raised as to wether Guardiola was doing a better job than Wilding, who has been doing an excellent job at Sheffield Utd.

That hardly counts as bringing Man City into it.

Eh? Last time I looked Guardiola was the manager of Man City and it was a comparison between their resources and Sheff Utd's.

You made a mistake, just hold your hands up rather than keep digging.

I'm not saying we are - my argument is that if you're simply using the league table as a guide to who the best manager is then Klopp is the best, then Guardiola, then Rodgers, Lampard, Wilder, Solskjaer etc. But considering the squad and resources the disposal is the league table the only evidence we can use to judge managers?

It's not the only evidence and I never said it was. I'm just suggesting that Lambert can't be completely clueless given he had us top last weekend.

Look I understand everyone's frustrations/worries I just think some of it is a bit OTT.

Surely the folly of just using the league table to say x manager is better than y is evidenced by the fact that using that logic, Lambert has in the space of a week gone from being the best manager in the division to the 4th best, and by next week could suddenly be anything from the 2nd to 7th best?

Not to mention that it completely fails to take into account resources available as others have pointed out, not to mention form and trajectory

I knew you'd be along to stick the boot in when you saw the pack rounding on me. I never said I would JUST use the league table. I'm merely stating it's unlikely someone clueless would have us top just a week ago.

Just wish ME would sack the bloke... he is utterly inept.

Hasn’t been a good manager for years, and has done nothing short of a terrible job here. He’s got no style no plan b... he is just another washed up has been in the Megson and Pulis mould. Should have gone and got Nathan Jones in January whilst he is available, had a bad time at stoke but he has a system and develops it, and our players imo are built for the diamond.

Sick of this whole crap. A useless owner and Pr merchant as manager. I’m sick of mediocrity and fans accepting it... there were fans at the end singing and clapping in section six.. happy flappers I say

Care to engage with the points made? Your argument that us being top is evidence that Lambert is the best manager in the league is flawed IMO, as it completely ignores that we have far more resources than 95% of the league

Can’t be a*sed to argue the point about investment any further, it’s evident from the published accounts we didn’t reinvest all of the transfer income from last season

Can you please link Lambert saying that his contract extension was signed in October, as I must have missed this and anything I have seen indicates it was signed and announced at the turn or the year

This article and the sentiment of the fans of that club..... on 22:08 - Feb 2 with 1691 viewsunstableblue

.... (Brentford) and the fact that Thomas Frank would seamlessly continue the club's technical strategy....

(From a fan)
"Just a cog in the Brentford fc wheel.. love how these clueless people who think the way we play was down to Smith"

I get shot down for using the term technical about Ipswich and our failings to be technical and hire technical..... well the late technical director of Brentford Robert Rowan.. continued to forge that technical approach.. where a system of play, a choice of technical player, a style of passing is bigger than the manager.

This from Dean Smith:

But for Smith, the fact his entire squad of players have such a deep understanding of the Brentford way of football is one of the greatest pleasures.

He said: "We have 18 or 19 players that I have changed around for the last six games."

"However, such is the understanding of our structure, style of play, and of each other, that the players who have come in have adapted well. I don’t think anybody could say that there has been a change in our style, or how we have played, and that is one of the things that gives me the greatest pleasure. Whoever goes in knows how we play and the structure of the team."

And that technical style and system is entertaining and on the ground, about shapes, running and movement.

Marcus has failed to instill a structure, a leadership team, a strategy and a single manager to get us anywhere close to this, or other more progressive/technical clubs.

Keane, Jewell, Mick, Hurst..... not what the fans or club needed for the long term. Mick papered over issues with a style and ethos that would never succeed in the long term. Ever.

Now we have Lambert..... I'm not seeing a system of play, evidence of technical training that instills a purpose and ethos of play. And indeed Lambert doesn’t have the structure around him for a modern club, and his subordinates do not seem to progressive in behaviour and approach.

All very worrying. I just hope we can get some momentum and get the system that has been good in some games firing again. Keep in the hunt, get promoted and rethink.

You cannot succeed in football in 2020 without strategy, alignment and a technical foundation.

The bit that depresses me most is our utter inability to raise ourselves for big matches - promotion clashes, TV games, derbies. We have been flat for these types of games for more than a decade now, under various different managers. We always look as if we aren’t taking these games as seriously as our opponents, we just so rarely come out battling. I just don’t get it,

You have to have a strong foundation of technical attributes of play baked into a squad... of shape, system, movement, passing, moving between the lines... to be able to be consistent in big games, and have a fall back plan when things don’t go well, or you are not at your best.

We have not just failed in the big games, but we were passed off the pitch for many many years, from clubs with lower resources. I thought we were breaking that cycle .... but only against lower teams in this league.

Way ott. I’m very concerned that we are chucking away automatic promotion based on our last 2 performances but we’ve been in the top six pretty much since day one and only a week ago went back to the top of the table.

Now we are seeing calls to replace the manager. If we did that I think we’d be a laughing stock to the neutrals.
