Just keep refering to it as a 'lockdown'. The fact that it isnt, nor ever has been is entirely immaterial.

I get why this was a problem when we were in the containment phase but not sure now.

The virus is here, these people aren’t any more likely to have it than any other 15,000 people in the country?

Will of course be important again when we start to come out the other side.

All of us are in quarantine all of the time at the moment. If everyone landing goes no nearer than 2m to anyone other than those in their direct household in the next 3-6 weeks then presumably the risk is low!? If not, what are we all doing it for?

This is something that will need to be looked at as part of the exit plan though.

Would you prefer the Chinese approach with high rise blocks being welded shut at the entrance and wifi being disabled?

Yes, this is a serious question?

3000 Athletico Madrid fans went to Anfield when Madrid schools were closed and Spain had announced that all football matches would be played behind closed doors, as Madrid was a hot spot in Spain for Covid 19. So this is no surprise at all, a women in my area arrived back from Thailand a couple of weeks ago after being unable to get flight home and she was just handed a leaflet on CV as she walked out of Heathrow airport.

Not sure how testing and quarantining them is really going to help.

The virus is already spread throughout the UK.

If they wanted to stop people bringing in CV then they should have banned all immigration, holiday/business travel in/out of the Country since last Nov

Also remember the WHO say there isn't a need to ban travel, that's why they criticised Trump for banning flights from China

Which only worked because they were doing it in just one specific region of the country (Hubei), meaning the rest of China was able to support them with the necessities of life. Putting an entire country in that degree of lockdown is simply not a practical proposition - where does the food and medical care come from?

I agree but also it wasn't locked down before 1000's were travelling all over the country for CNY so ultimately many parts of China were in lockdown after that as well

They did a fair job in Wuhan but the measures they took were bordering on barbaric and quite frankly it is almost impossible to prevent a virus like this spreading and once it has you had better live (or die) with it until a vaccine is found.

Agreed, a Wuhan-type lockdown would be very damaging not just for the economy, but also to the morale of the British people. Doubt anyone would again trust a government which did that unless it had a cast iron case proving its absolute necessity.

The recent stabilising of numbers testing positive each day in hospital would seem to suggest our form of lockdown is having a beneficial effect.

Guernsey has virtually stopped people from coming to , or leaving the island. There are no passenger boats arriving, and just one flight to and from Southampton a day., which is largely for medical reasons as nearly all cancer treatments are done there. It seems to be effective, as it seems likely some loosening of the restrictions will occur at the weekend. Obviously it is a much easier thing to do on a small island with a population of 63,000 than in the UK.

I think there is more than 1 flight from Guernsey a day, as it keeps flying over my house.
The other weird thing is the recently bankrupt Flybe keep flying their planes about as well.

There is only one Southampton - Guernsey flight which is being operated by Aurigny. When there was a full schedule it was operated by Blueislands using Flybe planes, even after Flybe went bust.

Possibly being used to shuttle medical supplies around?

We've had a lot of flights going into Gloucestershire Airport (Staverton) since the outbreak started, including big military transport 'planes.

Most of these 15,000 are repatriation flights, but still they should be quarantined for a period

Does that include the planeload of Romanians flown in to pick fruit and veg? As I've pointed out before, British people aren't willing to do this physically demanding work. And at the moment there are people short of money, but still they won't pick fruit. And, moreover, even if the wages were a great deal higher, British people still wouldn't do it.

brexit will work though.
