Excluding Tony dinning on 13:23 - Oct 13 by Warkystache | A few for the older posters amongst us: Michael Cole - striker, no control, made Mich D'Avray look like Ian Rush. Chris O'Donnell - one of the worst defenders I've ever seen. What the f*ck John Duncan was thinking... Glenn Pennyfather - perennial sub. Even that was above his abilities. But my all-time most disappointing given his pedigree and youth was Trevoh Chalobah. Destined to never play for Chelsea and will probably end up in the Dutch third division. |
Agree with all these. I remember watching O'Donnell in a reserve game against Brighton and he was terrible. Scored an own goal and a 45 year old Gerry Armstrong scored a hat-trick. Chalobah wasn't great but there have been many worse. [Post edited 13 Oct 2020 14:24]

Excluding Tony dinning on 12:22 - Oct 13 by N2_Blue | Why does Ulrich Le Pen always get mentioned? I just commented elsewhere. He had a few minutes in which he looked lively and then snapped his leg. Not really comparable to the dross that put in repeatedly poor performances some of which didn't even look like footballers |
Yes... hence me alluding to his injury.... did f all after that though so some vindication I think

We had a scratch line up for that Charlton game. Ot included Kerslake and a front duo of David White and Neil Gregory. Terrible performance. I remember this game well as a friend of mine was stabbed three times the evening before the game in north London for his bag of beers and was left in a coma for a few weeks. He is right as rain today.

What a terrible day that must have been! I see someone has mentioned Ivan Campo somewhere in the thread, I seem to remember him being fairly competent, there's no way he makes this list, surely?

this by a country mile, remember Paul Cooper having to save three one on ones against Palace due to 3 poor back passes, truly shocking player Special mentions to Drissa Diallo who couldn't even throw the ball, Jonathan Douglas and Lee Chapman who should have retired before he came here [Post edited 14 Oct 2020 10:46]

Lee Chapman at least managed to score which is more than the Leon Best managed ( I think Earl Jean scored but can't be sure! )

That was me, I did preclude it with "not the worst, but some notable mentions". It was the way he was hailed as some kind of messiah and his every touch applauded despite being quite clearly past it and a bit of a liability which bothered me. Not one of the worst players we've had, but one who got far more minutes for us than his performances deserved and appeared to be picking up a pay cheque on reputation alone. We released him the following year and he then played 8 times for a Cypriot second division side before retiring. Enough said.

Earl Jean did not even play a full game let alone score: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Jean Yet even in that brief appearance his cluelessness remains locked in my memory, what was Burley thinking of?

Thank you! weren't we going through one of injury spells again with no fit strikers anywhere in the club. I still regard Leons Best (lack of) performance in the live televised BBC game against then non-league Lincoln to be one of the worst, I think what really stung was that everyone else could get to see how bad we were, we knew Mick couldn't give a flying rats bottom about cup games and it showed!
