Millwall no longer taking the knee tomorrow now on 08:58 - Dec 8 by Keno | So what if their fans boo the banner? do they stop doing that? What if their fans start making racist gestures players, would that be ok? Sometime you have to take a stand, and sometimes that stand is taking a knee Shame on Millwall as a club, shame of their fans and shame on anyone who tries to defend it |
You are talking about a club whose fans starting fighting each other at Wembley.

Millwall no longer taking the knee tomorrow now on 09:29 - Dec 8 by Wacko | I agree with the article - it is highly likely that a lot of these fans have jumped on the 'let's politicise BLM' bandwagon to mask their racism. My point is that we as normal non-Alt-right people shouldn't stoop to their level and post only half the information to a story, in case we're accused of flogging an agenda (see below) [Post edited 8 Dec 2020 9:29]

When we beat them in the League Cup under Keane it all kicked off in the home end for no obvious reason. It turned out that there had been a bit of an argument at the previous home match and someone ended up chucking a pint of urine over another fan.

Millwall no longer taking the knee tomorrow now on 10:41 - Dec 8 with 2998 views | uefacup81 | Reading Barney Ronay's article, what's the context of this statement from Millwall? In his article he states: This may now get much worse. Millwall play QPR on Tuesday night with that pin already pulled. A group of 2,000 home fans will again be present. Both teams intend to take a knee. The talk around the place is that at least one player is prepared to leave the pitch if the boos are repeated. The way I read this, it sounds like the club has acted unilaterally rather than in consultation with their players. This could be an interesting night in south-east London...

Anyone know the club well enough to hazard a guess at which individual/s actually made the decision?

QPR also decided not to take the knee , and that came from Les Ferdinand who says it has now run its course , that is some statement coming from an ex black player !

You're saying that because Les Ferdinand has said it's run its course, then it's run its course. That doesn't make it true. This is the third or fourth time you've mentioned Ferdinand in relation to this now. Then again, I'm not sure why I'm bothering with someone who thinks raising a fist is a sign of black antagonism.

Les Ferdinand made that decision because he said gestures with no substance don't go very far towards achieving goals and didn't want the footballing authorities to become complacent thinking they've turned a corner. A very agreeable position. What isn't an agreeable position is cowing to the racists for fear of upsetting them with a simple sign of solidarity.

QPR were, however, going to take the knee for the Millwall game and it's possible that they still might. That's because it would be more impactful to do so given the context. And Les Ferdinand doesn't feel it should be stopped because he disagrees with it, which is the line you've previously taken when it comes to supoeitng the Black lives matter message. His worry is that it becomes tokenistic, but this Millwall issue suggests otherwise. And of course Les Ferdinand is entirely entitled to his view, but he is just one voice and there are hundreds of Black people within the game who continue to support taking the knee.

Pretty sure there will be no booing of any anti racist banners. Think the issue is the knee itself and reading on media how it is linked to a murderer and also BLM / Antifa and the war statues being attacked earlier in the year. Not my words just what I read on various comment on facebook etc.

That’s a fair point. Taking the knee feels empty to me too in some ways. Or to put it another way, I’m disappointed with how little change there’s been as a result. The FA still have miles to go on this and I think we need genuine zero tolerance. Banned for life maybe? Not sure I’d go that far, but a season ban for players and 3-5 year ban for fans would be a good start. Players get what currently for racial abuse - 4-8 games? Nowhere near enough, not even close. I disagree with Ferdinand that that’s a reason to stop protesting, but that’s his choice.

Good to see. People must not be bullied on this. Good for those fans, including those of Millwall, who applauded the appearance of the banner tonight too. This isn't a passing menace, it's an ongoing social problem and it's promising to see so many people take a stand, even in the face of those few who refuse to acknowledge their own backwards prejudice.

Rommy, Millwall always had an element of deeply unpleasant supporters. They also revel in their notoriety, feed off it. But they are a small minority, even if they are a vocal one. Not worth winding yourself up over them.

What you'll end up with, hopefully sooner than later, is, regardless of who supports who, more of a number of fans with a shred of decency telling the others where to go. This could end up being more of an in-house disagreement than being about club loyalties.
