When did you want Lambert out? 20:39 - Feb 19 with 6036 viewsMattinLondon

For me, I gave him the benefit of the doubt time after time and I fell for his PR (I’m not the only one). But I think I wanted him gone seven last season was curtailed.

Was wondering when everyone else wanted him gone.

Try not to brag that you saw through him quite early - we have Bluefish for that.

Around the time he was given his contract extension I was amazed, based on his poor performance. But when we started off winning, albeit unconvincingly, I was happy enough to see if we could build from it.

I was clear in the summer that he should have gone then. I was surprised there wasn't more vocal opposition to him then. But I think it is because of how the season ended.

I saw no point starting the season off on a negative. But it quickly became clear that another transfer window hadn't helped because he just can't coach players to play effectively as a team.

what was it that made you think that PL wasn't the person to bring us forward? I want to learn what I missed way back then. He definitely fooled me (I was a Jack Ross advocate but I was willing to back PL after hearing from him).

I'd hardly had glowing reports about him from media colleagues who worked with him at Norwich as much as anything. Didn't think he was the man for Town given his background.

Having said that you have to give new managers a chance whoever they are and the fan engagement stuff was something which was needed even if it proved short-lived and a facade. But even if it had been genuine and maintained it needed results which never came.

Probably doubted after 4 or 5 games and then really thought he was a fraud in March 2019, he hadn't improved us at all despite being well backed in the window. I was convinced around Nov 2019 and first chanted FO PL in December 2019 at Lincoln. There was never a moment that I doubted it after that

Phil, was it just his footballing record which put you off? Or, in your position, had you heard tales of his personality/ working flaws like how we’re seeing now?

Just about the time Evans gave him a five year contract(!). Lincoln away last season was an end of manager performance, or really should have been. Given he was here at the start of this season he got another chance, that lasted until November for me when it was clear we were starting to struggle.

I think Lambert should have done more in get relegation season but maintain my view at the time that the damage was done by Hurst in the transfer window.

He was done with no return at that Lincoln game. Still beyond comprehension that wasn't the end

Phil wins the willy waving. I never wanted him either but tried to give him a chance and really did hope he would be our best ever

FWIW I didn't want to be the only prick that could clearly see through it and it was horrible at times that people saw something different. Nothing has changed for me, it hasn't gone downhill it has been consistently horrific. It was proper emperors new clothes listening to others. I could always see a naked tw*t

After the Lincoln 5-3.
Resigned myself after the new deal that he’d be here for a while longer but start of lockdown onwards.
I just hadn’t seen anything on the pitch to suggest he knew what he was doing.....
I also couldn’t remember another manager turning round a bad situation which was all their own fault.
There are many, many managers who I always considered meh who I’d rather have at FPR.

He'd already had one life used up for going down with little fight in the Championship. But there was an improvement in apparent mood in the squad after Hurst so I was happy to support him at the start of our first L1 campaign.

I wasn't convinced with our performance at the start of our first season in L1, although there was an odd half when we played well, so it gave hope. Possibly by Christmas 2019 was the time that I was becoming convinced he didn't have what it takes. I was certainly convinced when he was clueless about trying to stop the slump during Jan/Feb 20. I'd have got rid of him end of last season.

But then more hope/another false dawn. I was happy with the end of pre-season and start to this season; far more so than the start of 2019/20 actually. It was the best football we've played under him. But as soon as we could literally see the confidence disappear during the Doncaster match in October the alarm bells rang loud and clear. The following performances and FA Cup feck up just confirmed we were back to square one and another slump was on the cards. Then I got covid and couldn't have given a sh*t about us for a few weeks. But come January I wanted him gone while we still had a chance to get someone new in and give them the bulk of the transfer window.

I didn't fall for his PR, but I did give him the benefit of the doubt after good little runs. The main one being the start of this season. We played some lovely stuff - more than good enough to win the league had we carried it on. We're so far from that now, it's almost funny. We can't carry on in this state and he has to go now.

Sorry, long answer. But you did ask .

Indeed, two months without a win and that non-performance followed by a five year contract. Evans is an utter idiot even it comes to football.

I thought he contributed nothing to the club in the relegation season and if he'd gone that Summer I'd have approved.

But, since there was no chance of that happening I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

Started actively wanting him out when we were sliding down the league in November-December last year.

I know I’ve said this before on here but, thinking about it, when I heard we were appointing him my first thought was “we should have just kept Hurst”.

Was never keen on him and very disappointed with his appointment.

The PR stuff was all a con due to his background.

Wanted him sacked once relegation was confirmed, he took us down without a fight and got away with it, we were only 5 points adrift when he came in, people forget that but they say he was dealt a bad hand from Hurst [yawn]

I think it probably was genuine.

Let's face it, he needed to resurrect his career, and I wouldn't be surprised if he thought he could repeat his Norwich success here.

...sadly the results never followed.

Two moments that most shocked me on this forum;

1. Reading that Jordan Rhodes had been sold.

2. Reading about the 5 year extension for PL.

In no particular order.

New Year’s Day last year. I foolishly thought he deserved a chance after Hursts wreckage, but it became clear to me by the end of 2019 that there was no rebuild, no plan, no idea. Just a vacant looking bag of wind.

I also gave him the free hit but by December 2019 I thought he deserved to go, especially when it became clear that Neil Warnock was interested in coming here. However, once we started this season well I thought maybe he'd changed, but from November it was obvious he hadn't.

To be honest, I'm more annoyed about the fact that Cook/Cowley probably aren't coming rather than Lambert staying a couple of weeks longer than planned. I can't cope with us p1ssing another opportunity up the wall with a dull appointment like Neil Harris.
