Someone said something yesterday that made me think.

Season ticket sales could hold up, given just how desperate people are to get back to the football.

It’s a possibility.

Equally, I’ve had people say to me that after a year, and bearing in mind how dire it was when last in PR, they haven’t missed it as much as they thought they would.

Time will tell I guess.

And that ladies and gentlemen is part of the problem.

Buying from the club = supporting the current owner.

I know peoples connection with the club are much deeper than that but you need to do what you need to do, look at Charlton etc who FORCED the owner out.

If you all buy ST's then don't moan when we are battling relegation under Sir Marcus next season.

Boycott and I guarantee he reacts within weeks.

The season ticket package release is when something surely has to give? Unless Evans is so tuned out of fans thinking that he seriously believes the majority will return - and that doesn’t tie in with the BCWYWF statement.

From what I'm told that's being put off as long as possible. They also think that a change of manager will be a panacea on that front, that all will suddenly be rosy with with ITFC world. I've told them I don't think that will be the case, particularly if the new manager is someone that fans have little enthusiasm for.

From what I was hearing at the end of the week it was all being readied to get done. They obviously had a chat on Friday, even if not the 'big meeting', and then yesterday's result evidently must have had some impact. No idea whether the owner still believes or is just loath to pay out on a settlement and a new incoming boss.

We all know where this is going to end up, a decison finally made when it's far too late for the new manager to turn it around.

If you’re the new man waiting in the wings, this dithering when things have clearly gone south won’t do anything for your confidence in what you’re walking into. Once you’ve offered a gig, you need to move quickly to cement it. That’s how ME will miss his first choice (which as we don’t know who it is may be a good thing...!)

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

No, but, when you add in paying off Lambert's backroom staff, interviews, legal stuff and whatever, it might be a million or two at a time when he's already having to cover significant extra shortfalls and may not be able to load too much extra onto his businesses.

Perhaps it's simply that Evans currently does not have the time to do the interviewing, canvassing opinions and decisionmaking required in selecting a new manager for ITFC. Too busy elsewhere, doing other stuff.

Given the current situation he's in, I think it has to be this, and consider the cost of a new man and his staff too, also, now that the wage cap has been scrapped for next season it's not such a desperate decision for him, he can afford to wait in hope that with the new loan players coming in and given a few weeks to settle. we can string a few wins together and it will all suddenly look so much better....

He also must think that the trump card he still holds firmly to his chest just in case this doesn't work out as he'd hoped...a new man to feed those ST sales for next season..

I agree, if it’s the Dyer/Butcher combination I think there will be an uplift - the likes of Pearson, Cook or the Cowley’s will probably see some positivity as well. But if it’s someone like Parkinson or Megson then I can see things just sinking faster.

I do think a new manager, if it seems like a decent appointment, will result in an uplift of sorts but not a sustainable one unless it results in changes on and off the pitch.

It's the 'recruitment' of young fans that I'd be most worried about if I was the owner of a disintegrating football club of which I had been the owner for ten years or more.

Older fans might drift off and come back under some miraculous recovery (if they are still with us or still interested in football), but there will be fk all kids interested in becoming Town fans now. Why the fk would they? Inevitable decline without major intervention now.

If the club imagines that a change of manager will be an unconditional panacea... unbelievable. That's either disingenuous or strategically incompetent in the extreme.

Which makes me lead to think it can only be a takeover, it's the only plausible reason, but I just can't see how this would happen during a global pandemic and economic downturn.

Its all such a head scratcher.

An economic downturn and the current financial climate only serves to heighten acquisitions given seller vulnerability. Definitely opportunities for buyers.

I've been paying out for a season ticket over the last year with no product except dodgy footage of poor football with a commentary im entitled to listen to through my TV licence. Many have stated on hear why do you continue to pay out? The reason being that love of the club. However the owner isn't listening to these fans who are making this gesture of £350 a year to fund his club. Its not much of an ask for him to tell us why he is insisting on keeping this buffoon in a job. A man who speaks to our local press like dirt, who treats some of his own young players with disrespect.
I am paying off this season but it will be cancelled soon if paying happens with the managerial role. Even if lambert now went on an unbelievable winning streak and made the last offs, its too late for me. He's burnt his bridges.

Personally, the sense that they're essentially happy to just write this season off is going to make a huge difference to whether I'd consider getting one.

That's before we even get to the manager's constant undignified shenanigans and the club's evident tolerance of it.

That certainly could be a factor, but if things are still as they are - and unless there's a miraculous change of fortune I don't anticipate any announcement along those lines until there's a new manager - I expect it to become something where fans flex their muscles, no change, no season ticket, that sort of thing.

If this is the case, then Evans must think this result can turn it round? He genuinely still believes then otherwise he'd be gone.

Evans must still think that a run of results and this all turns round, because we cling on to anything than being utterly awful as a positive and potential first step on a new run

It’ll end up dragging on until 31/32 games played and this season written off
[Post edited 21 Feb 2021 8:13]

I think this season is already a write-off tbh. As it currently stands we have a 16% chance of making the top 6. If we sacked and replaced Lambert now the new guy would have to make an immediate impact to even give us a shot - we're talking 10 wins and 5 draws from our remaining 19 games. I can't think of too many examples of where a club has sacked a manager this deep into the season and then gone on to finish top 6.

Sports club stats. It runs simulations of the rest of the season hundreds of millions of times. From that you can get a %. I'm using the weighted method.
