Hes not tough enough to play deep

It's a nightmare atm with some posters starting new threads on their every single thought.

Still a very capable squad, and so much less bloated than the one we currently have. If the takeover goes through I suspect Cook will be able to recruit about 5 more players with proven quality (personally I would love Kirk from Crewe and Mullin from Cambridge). |  |

A huge number of players are out of contract in the summer so pruning the squad shouldn't be hard. Donacien & Cotter won't be offered Town contracts I presume. Wright, Nydam, Folami & Morris will also be out of contract & be classified as "senior" players. Keep Nydam if he is showing signs of getting fit. Not sure about Morris & Folami - we can't keep to many walking sick notes. Wright won't get a deal.
We have extensions on Bishop & Jackson, which should be triggered.
Edwards is frustratingly inconsistent & at 27 should be doing better.
Not dying to keep Ward, Chambers, Skuse, Huws, Drinan, Sears or Toto. Give Wilson another year, hopefully as back-up & keep Judge for a year. |  |

While Cook will also be advised by Gill, who has been working with the first team squad for 2 1/2 years so he should have a view on each player's capabilities. Cook will actually be doing well to remember all the players' names! | |

Actually, no, i didn't and neither did you. He was largely absent today and made a clumsy challenge for the first goal. Bostock and Smith dominated him from start to finish against Donnie and the midfield dominated for large periods for Accrington with 10-men.
Its all very well being silky on the ball and be able to pick a pass but unfortunately, Dozzell needs to do more than that, every game. |  |

I just don't see it.
I think we are blinded by the family connection and the fact that he is 'home grown'. If his name wasn't Dozzelll and he'd been signed by Hurst, we'd be (rightly) be up in arms about why he was continually playing. I'd sell him tomorrow.
The problem with this thread is that people are suggesting selling lots of squad players, most of which are nowhere near the first team yet seemingly keeping the vast majority of the underachievers that are in the team most weeks....not me! Here is my list:
Chambers and Skuse = KEEP whatever league we're in, they always put in a shift in and put their bodies on the line for the team. I'd give them one more year.
Downes = KEEP He has undoubted potential. The star of an otherwise very lightweight midfield.
Wilson = KEEP Lambert seemed to discover he was the best centre half at the club by accident.
Norwood = KEEP A decent player at this level. If we could get the service to him right, he'd be banging them in for fun. The failure to do so is indicative of our current midfield.
Jackson = SELL A poor footballer. Pace isn't good enough when his touch is just so abysmal. Can't play as a wide forward and that is the system Cook will carry on playing.
Dozzell = SELL Offers very little. Poor defensively, lightweight, inconsistent and offers very little attacking threat. Undoubtedly skilful but isn't doing to get us promoted.
Holy = SELL Not good enough, end of.
Nolan = SELL Runs around looking busy but contributes almost nothing.
Nsiala = SELL Inconsistent. Very poor with his feet but does put a shift in.
Wolfenden = KEEP but needs to work on physicality. A potentially good ball playing defender. and a better overall footballer than Nsiala.
Kenlock - KEEP. A good enough player at this level
Judge - SELL. Nobody seems to know where to play him in this system. Awful as a wide forward. Better in midfield but hugely inconsistent.
KVY - KEEP Lambert's greatest achievement was signing him.
BISHOP - KEEP I think Cook could get him playing well. Far too lightweight but on his day a great footballer.
Other than these, I'd look to clear out EVERYONE else. I wouldn't want to hang onto ANY of the loans. Parrott is the best of the bunch, but they've collectively provided to be nothing better than what we have already.
Perhaps harsh, but be have to face facts. We've got some poor players, albeit, many of them are 'home-grown'. [Post edited 6 Mar 2021 22:54]

There will be a lot players either getting moved on, or simply not being kept on (particularly given that PC will bring in his own players to mould his own team). None of the loanees have brought an obvious improvement, so they are easy decisions.
As eluded to today, the squad is too large. The state of the squad is absolutely ridiculous - we have 3 or 4 players of very similar ability in some positions.
I think it's less the ability of the players in the squad that is the problem, moreso it is the number of players (of relatively similar ability) that are vying for games. If we stuck to a fairly steady starting 11/ squad and base everything around a general group of 20/21 players, that seems much more sensible. [Post edited 6 Mar 2021 23:10]
