Market research 18:50 - Mar 10 with 5691 views | catch74 | So my pub has a decent garden - we’re set up to serve everything from the pub. We’re thinking of building an outside bar for obvious reasons in the current climate. Anywhere anyone’s been offering something special/ something really enjoyed - food and drinks. Could go pizza oven - but quite a few pubs round here have done that already. Burgers/ Paninis/ kebabs or home made ice cream stall.

Easy to do vegan option too. The Vine in West Brom did it out the back, it was awesome. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g504214-d2701621-r728857099-The_Vi Check out Chicken Tikka Wrap [Post edited 10 Mar 2021 18:59]

Market research on 19:01 - Mar 10 with 1927 views | Coastalblue | You're Surrey? Is that right? Rural? Probably not going to add much meaningful to your request, but when you're up and running if you're the area I think you are then I'll definitely come and sample. We often enjoy a day out in the country around that neck of the woods and the odd weekend away, I think it will be high on the list once we can get out and about again. To answer your question, I do enjoy a good wood fired pizza, proper authentic stylee, but a well done BBQ takes an awful lot of beating if you can get beyond sausages and burgers. My only other input would be, on behalf of my partner, a proper veggie option that deasn't look like a token gesture or afterthough goes a long way.

Yeah but The Vine, Sportsman, Red Cow etc have masses of Indian chefs around there looking for a job. I don't think rural Surrey will be so easy. I would go burger! Edit; Although one of those indoor / outdoor Indian BBQ things which you get in West Bromwich, Birmingham etc would be a blooming goldmine in the south. If he could find a chef who knows the ropes with that sort of pub dining then it would be a mini tourist attraction, people would drive for miles. Edit Edit; I know The Vine is great but The Sportsman in my favourite up that way. https://www.sportsmanbarandrestaurant.co.uk/ Catch; If you were serious and had a room for the chef to live in I reckon I might be able to find you an Indian Brummy chef. Long term it would be brilliant. [Post edited 10 Mar 2021 19:10]

Market research on 19:09 - Mar 10 with 1890 views | footers | The outside bar at the Pineapple in Kentish Town is cask ales and ciders only. Literally just the casks stacked on top of each other and they just fly out. Food trends are much harder to catch, imo. But if you can make a decent pizza then that's a pretty good long-term money spinner. You can always adapt the pizzas to changing times and not your whole offering.

We are rural - danger of our Facebook page is we’ve fought off a number of the locals who thought they owned the place previously. It’s nice to have some ‘external’ ideas. I’ve found this site really useful for ideas etc in the past.

Market research on 19:27 - Mar 10 with 1792 views | Mullet | I think people have you covered but it has to be pizzas or wraps/subs. That way they can be kid friendly, hippy friendly and fad-friendly as you can change the flavours and ingredients regularly. There's loads of stuff you can chuck on the BBQ and do a range of stuff/themes every few weeks if you fancy. My mate runs a burger place and while they are a bit old hat now, the American "man vs food" style gluttony stuff still sells really well and can allow you to cater to all tastes.

"we’ve fought off a number of the locals who thought they owned the place previously." Interesting line. A previous local of mine went through numerous owners who couldn't make it work despite some fine efforts and an excellent plot. I tried to point out the problem in my opinion was the locals thought it was their pub and that outsiders were put off. It's all very well *so&so* coming in and sinking half his wages each week in Stella, but that family who just walked out the door because of his swearing were about to order a Sunday lunch for 4. Some landlords might look at Mr Boozy as their bread and butter but personally I reckon there's more long-term prospect in getting that food on the table and making that work.

Just good, whatever it is, and people will flock to it. Burgers, home made steak pies, kebabs, bbq - it’s making me hungry again just thinking of it! I hope it goes well.

Some of that type seem to take a weird sort of pride in not drinking in a family pub. Same sort of weirdos who hate Town being a family club and wish we had a bit more aggro.

Market research on 19:32 - Mar 10 with 1763 views | hoppy | Outside bar, serving Away Days beer (as it's away from the main bar...!!) Pizza oven would work well with your garden setting, but so would decent BBQ/paninis/burgers. I thought it was a really nice pub when I visited, to be fair, so anything that is an added value like that would just add to the offering you have, and not just limited to covid restrictions.

Especially if your bar money goes to Adnams and their ilk and food goes in your profits. That's the future of pubs and has been for donkey's years. The days of blokes sat there supping several times a week is long dead. I guess if you have pool/darts and screens and a rotating set of scenes and clubs passing through you'd do well but that's a lot of plates to spin compared to decent grub and service.

I bloody love a pickled egg in a pack of crisps. Has to be properly pickled though, ideally going a bit brown.

Pub in adjoining village work quite well with the opposite approach. They open the traditional hours of 11am-3pm and again from 7pm-11pm. Although drinkers are welcome they cannot do an all day session and so it all tends to stay much more civilised. They centre around food and have a good reputation and people will drive to them despite being in a quiet location miles from anywhere! In fact, they have been successful enough over the years to become enabled to buy their pub from the brewery themselves and now have a family home-cum-business for generations hopefully.

Most of us would have to travel, but that would either meankeeping it sensible, which I'm sure Catch would appreciate, or staying somewhere local? I'd be up for that, either staying locally or even going for the day and soft drinking it. Would need Catch to be OK with it of course.
