Banter era players 2007 - 2021 on 09:25 - Apr 9 by ITFCLuke | Jonathan Douglas may have had one of the single worst midfield games I've witnessed against Newcastle when we lost 3 - 0. There was a video circulating where he looked like a competition winner |
The worst thing about that is that it was a video from a Newcastle fan about an hour into the match. They had probably never heard of him before but decided after 60 minutes he was that much of a carthorse they needed to video him. He was a regular for 2 seasons under us!

Banter era players 2007 - 2021 on 10:28 - Apr 9 by JammyDodgerrr | Let's be real here, he was not great towards the end of his time here, completely checked out, but the seasons before that he was not that bad at all. He even filled at CB a couple of times and did a decent job. Feels like he got scapegoated a bit, but the majority of his time here was decent. We have had much worse RBs. |
Can’t blame Spence for not being good. It must be hard playing football if you’re constantly worried that maybe Zac Efron is shafting your wife 6000 miles away.

Banter era players 2007 - 2021 on 10:24 - Apr 9 by C_HealyIsAPleasure | He scored those 4 goals in 33 appearances, 18 in 78 in total across his 2 years here, having been signed for c£1-1.5m and on no doubt very expensive wages. Having been bombed out of here (with a year left on his contract so quite possibly with us having to pay some of that up too) he scored a whole 3 further league goals at such illustrious levels of the Scottish Championship and ISL He was a f**king disaster, Garv |
Garv loves a Town failure, be it Lambert, Jewell, Chopra, Taylor or Martin. [Post edited 9 Apr 2021 10:59]

That's harsh I think, the only players who have matched his 11/12 tally since were Mcgoldrick in 13/14, Murphy in 14/15 and Waghorn in 17/18, who were all really good players for us. For just that one season he was a decent enough player for us even if he was overpaid. He was a lot better than someone like Paul Taylor or Tamas Priskin, or even Freddie Sears to be honest. He dropped off a lot the following season but still only scored two fewer than Daryl Murphy. Doesn't matter though because the correct answer to this thread is obviously Donacien.

I think this was peak banter as the club got SO excited they had an asset they could sell at a profit they couldn't shuffle him out of the door quickly enough.
Banter era players 2007 - 2021 on 11:23 - Apr 9 with 1463 views | judespiveyg | There was something incredibly underwhelming about the signing (and performances) of Will Keane, the 26 year old striker who had 6 career goals to his name when we signed him, who was somehow supposed to save us from relegation along with Collin Quaner who might have been even worse.

Ellington - another one who’d not missed many dinners before topping up his pension between 2011-2013 at Ipswich. Literally unrecognisable from the player who’d banged em in for Wigan just 6 years earlier. 17 appearances. Jeez, talk about stealing a living. [Post edited 9 Apr 2021 12:36]

SEB's always a weird one, it's hardly like we ever depended on him is it? We got him on a short-term deal to see if his legs still worked, which they didn't, so we promptly got rid. If he'd been anywhere near the heights he'd hit pre-injury we'd have got a player far above our level on the dirt-cheap just because we had his old manager on board, which would have been amazing; as it was, a cheap gamble that didn't come off, amongst other cheap gambles which sometimes didn't come off and sometimes did.

I'd agree with all that. But there are gambles and there is throwing money away. He was out of shape, we didn't need to give him a contract to find that out, a weeks trial should have been more than enough. I will also add every Irish youth that Mick signed with the words "he's going to be a big player for us" only for none of the to play.

Or even better 'right winger' in Frazer Richardson. The penultimate game of 2013/14, away at Burnley. Completely risk free with small play-off chances and he was our ...right winger. As for Bru he was a dogs**t. He may have scored a couple of screamers against Rotherham and Bolton but he was a headless chicken. Many times didn't he even know why and what for he was on the pitch. As 'effective' for us as Emyr Huws.

That was McCarthy sorting his Irish mates out by taking their really really really bad at football kids over to our club. Be Careful What You Wish For.

TYRONE MINGS! God what a disaohhh no wait that one worked out and the proceeds probably covered everything we spent on at least 10 of the ones that didn't, given how quickly they were shown the door when it clearly wasn't working. Come on guys, there are more than enough scabs to pick at without needlessly pretending that every penny-ante gamble Mick made was some sort of catastrophe.

Thinking of Gleeson got me thinking of Chaplow. Chaplow was a benchwarmer for a team who would eventually get relegated and we bought him in for a promotion push. Just think he should almost certainly be in this list.... if it wasn't for THAT goal. A legend in my eyes even though he did absolutely nothing else!

Useful squad filler for limited outlay and no commitment, Ben Pringle too. None should be on this thread really.
