I'm sure there is plenty in the works, it might be a case that the clubs asked SW/AW/PH not to link x player because we want to get it over the line.

No point being all fur coat and no knickers. Cook wants a solid spine of trusted players to run through that team. The season hasn't finished yet so still plenty of time for clubs to decide who can stay and go whether that be permanently or out on loan. I look at the playoffs in our division, arguably Lincoln & Sunderland's most impressive attacking players are on loan.

Morgan Rogers and they've got the well publicized son of David Johnson on the other flank from Forest. Sunderland have Jordan Jones and Oxford have Brandon Barker on loan from Rangers. Clubs higher up the period want their players to be playing regularly against savvy and experienced opponents that you simply don't get playing youth football. We will pick up a few over the summer. Cook has got a good track record with loans.

There are several clubs likely to be chasing the same players best to keep quiet until any deal is done. The time to start getting concerned is when the likes of Portsmouth announce new signings as they are likely to be players we have been in contact with. Identifying prime targets is one thing but signing them is another.

Town wanted Morgan Rogers in January but he turned us down and we signed Luke Thomas instead.

Phil in regards to a GK, have you heard anything more about Siegrist from Dundee? Is there anything in that rumour?

Sounds very possible but not one I've heard much about. Dundee United rather than Dundee!

Goalkeeper options on 11:41 - May 21 with 2014 views | J2BLUE | Jamal Blackman? No thanks. 27 year old keeper with less than 130 appearances in his career. Doesn't seem to have had a massively successful loan spell since 2018. Doesn't sound like an upgrade on either of the current two.

More that we could've had Rogers and ended up with Thomas. That's not a swipe at his off-field issues of course because they clearly affected his game but just frustrating we could have had one of the best players in the league and instead got someone who sadly wasn't in a fit state to play.

To be fair, whilst we like to think we could nurture and help develop other clubs players, we were at that time a bit of a basket case, you can understand players concerns when Lambert was playing whoever turned up. Whilst we are clearly more attractive than Lincoln on the whole, if you were a player you would just want stability for your development and Lincoln could offer that, our scattergun approach was probably quite off putting.

Phil, any murmurings yet on who might come in as GK coach? is it still purple bins only?

Yes, I think they were a better bet. At the time there were stories in the nationals about us and Lincoln were in the top two or three and looking on their way to promotion.

No, I don't think it's a job where PC had someone lined up. Not impossible Carl Pentney, currently in the role on an interim basis, could get it, but it is one where they are looking around rather than having someone ear-marked for the role.

Was more likely to get game time with Lincoln, and they were higher up the league. I’m sure Appleton was a plus, whereas “did you know I have a CL medal” was a put off.

Appleton does seem a safe pair of hands and has done a very good job there. If all doesn't go to plan for PC I'm sure he'll be top of the list here.
