Dishwashers.

If you've already rinsed the plates and pots before you put them in, what is the point?

Little bit of elbow grease never hurt none.

Going to have to disagree on this one.

If you're using a lot of stuff in your cooking it's a lifesaver, also if you have kids who decide to use every plate possible.

They are guaranteed to do a poor job. Also likely to get last nights spinach and garlic sauce all over the kitchen due to poor water velocity control.

Dishwasher all the way, they can load and unload it.

Dishwashers.

You're normally a sensible chap, but on this you're very wrong. Dishwashers use less water, are easier, wash better and hotter and save time for earning more pennies. The opposit of a false economy.

Sorry to have to put you straight, but I've tried to be gentle.

Cheap petrol.

There's a petrol station 5 miles away selling @ 2p a litre cheaper than your local.
You fill the tank (50 litres) and you've saved £1.00.
Amount of petrol to drive 10 miles = 1 litre.
Cost of cheap petrol £1.10 per litre.
At least you charged the battery.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Has anyone ever done this? Do people even look at the cost per litre?

I don't think I've ever looked at the cost per litre of petrol. When the dial's flirting on the edge of the red bit, I go in the next petrol station. Can't believe it makes that much of a difference, particularly with a small car.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

People don't look at fuel prices?!

Of course they do, that's why there are/have been price wars.

If you are running a business; maybe running a few motors or a taxi driver doing a 1,000 miles per week, you are going to take price of fuel into consideration.

It is different if you're running a car to Sainsbury's once a fortnight of course.

Or like Fergal, are running a cost-effective mode of transportation.

I don't worry about it. I think it all evens out and just get it whenever I need it. Can't worry about everything.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

This. I would imagine the bigger firms who have massive fleets hedge via oil futures rather than pissing about.

It's not a case of 'worrying' about anything.

The point is to maximise profit whilst minimalizing expenses.

If you're spending thousands of pounds a year on fuel then you will ensure you are getting the best deal.

It's like saying you run a restaurant but don't 'worry' about how much you pay for the raw ingredients.

It doesn't make any sense.

Getting a better price isn't pissing about.

It's obtaining a better price.

Like you do anything you use in copious amounts.

I certainly wouldn't drive to a specific destination to save a few pennies, that wouldn't make sense. I would fill up on certain days when close to a garage offering the best prices. Obviously.
