I see our turd of a local mp is stoking the culture war again. 09:13 - Jun 3 with 9258 viewsDubtractor

Taking the knee getting both barrels this morning.

I despair of the fact he represents my town.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I realise I may upset a few here but I would like an end to taking the knee. I know, I know. I think it should be replaced by something else, continually, frequently. Doing the same thing all the time doesn't have enough impact in my opinion. It doesn't enrage me, I just feel it isn't enough any more.

Also, having an automated BLM message on sky annoys me. it's just something that is programmed in like a sponsorship message. It has no soul.

I completely agree with you - it is now a pointless gesture that only serves to make people angry.

Altho the fact it is still provoking a reaction suggests it has retained its effectiveness for now. When it just results in a round of polite applause, then it has lost its impact.

But, equally, it is not enough on its own. You don't win a war by fighting just one battle.

but discussing how best to display opposition to discrimination isn't inherently racist. it seems to me to be entirely up to the players - particulalry those who suffer abuse online. but it does seem interesting that cricket is going a different way. or perhaps cricket is just wrong.

You may question its effectiveness but it is not a divisive political gesture ( unless you want to be divisive ). It's possible cricket just chose a different way to register the same sentiment. There is no wrong way to peacefully oppose racism.

If you want to be really depressed, pop over to the ITFC Insta page and look at the comments on the Pride Month story. Sad to see we have so many bigots and morons in our fanbase. And yes, there was a 'when is it Straight Pride month?' posted unironically.

Whatever happened to having basic human decency towards each other?

because there are 2 sides to the argument as to whether to continue or not with an initially well intended gesture that started a long time ago.

You may have noticed - when people disagree, esp on social media and forums, anger usually ensues.

discussing taking the knee isn't the same as being a racist. the policing the choice of gestures seems very unhealthy - which every direction you do it from.

based on the posts in this thread i thought he had said something much worse.

The only person trying to police anything is Hunt though.

Everyone else is just saying the players should be able to do what they want, without fear of being booed by their own supporters or criticised by their elected representatives.

No one's suggesting Hunt should be forced to take the knee before a debate in the commons.

Because there is a disingeuity from hunt and his lot about Marxism and similar buzz words.

People are doing it, it doesn't affect anyone bar delaying a game for literally 4-5 seconds - if that is making people angry then it says more about them

If people were being forced to do it, or something else, then I could get it

When you say people, I am not sure who you mean.

I think what we really need is someone that is actually angry to represent this view point.

At the moment you claim people are angry, so something should change, because of those people.

Really what we need is someone that is angry to explain their position, why they are angry, and then we can engage with that.

Unless you are personally angry, I am not sure you can represent those that are angry.

The people who are angry about a peaceful gesture highlighting the issue of racism don't really have a valid argument. They should reflect on why it makes them angry rather than demanding that people stop. This is sailing pretty close to victim blaming to be honest.

Most of the people who get angry about Marxism have zero clue what Marxism actually is - they're just parroting what they think are high falutin' words and concepts. If you ask any of them what Marxism actually is, they usually just say 'Russia' or 'Stalin' or similar.
