It's a protest against racism. It's not hard to understand what it means.

It was originally, I think the point is that it has now just become a bit routine, it’s meaning has been diluted.

In your opinion. And that doesn't exactly justify people being angry, does it?

Yes, in my opinion. I don’t think there are that many people who are angry about it. Again, just my opinion.

So if we say nothing then surely everything will get better somehow. I can only hope these muppets are children looking for internet clout but you really can't tell these days. 'Sexual deviancy' is a term I didn't think I'd come across in the UK in 2021. |
If you're not a sexual deviant, at the very least in one or two little ways, you really are a bit of a bore!

Trouble is, an awful lot of government media strategy is now focused on directly appealing to racists.

Sounds like something someone waging a 'war on woke' might say. I'm not sure your input on this subject can be trusted.

If anything the meaning has been clarified and should be easier to get behind. It started off tied in with the BLM protests last year, and those against could target the association with BLM and their anti capitalist stance, etc. But since then many clubs have released statements saying they see it solely as a non-political statement of anti racist support. So it’s really clear now. Those that oppose it can only be racists or racist apologists.

Spot on. The 'it's become meaningless' argument falls flat on its face anyway as soon as you realise that there a still plenty of people who are upset by it. If it's getting a response, how can it be ineffective or meaningless? All this hand wringing that it has run its course is nothing but concern trolling in an attempt to muddy the waters.

What has it got to do with him, how players show their support for BLM?

The gesture means the same thing it's always meant. It's a peaceful protest against racism. It's really not hard to understand.

I see our turd of a local mp is stoking the culture war again. on 14:24 - Jun 3 with 1686 views | Darth_Koont | I posted this recently. This is how the Supposed Loony Left was characterised in a daily paper in 1982. Cummings, the cartoonist, was even given an OBE the next year. These were just people that were ahead of their time when it came to equality and fighting racism, apartheid, homophobia etc. 40 years on the latest progressives are still demonised by the mainstream – from the far-right but even the self-titled “centre-left”. No wonder the knuckle-draggers and opportunist scum like Hunt feel emboldened. They’re just amplifying “the man in the street” and his normalised views.

I think if you don't get it by this point you're actively trying not to. Which of course says a lot more about those individuals than it does BLM. As Moose says, it's just concern trolling now.

Yeah, I’m struggling to see why we’re meant to just understand and accept their “anger”. Seems to be rubbing shoulders with the idea that we should respect someone’s opinion even though it’s racist.

I see our turd of a local mp is stoking the culture war again. on 14:43 - Jun 3 with 1618 views | JDB23 | Love how people are constantly claiming it’s lost it’s meaning yet a year on from when it started it’s still talked about nearly every week. It’s keeping the conversation in the public discourse. Do you think having a little advertising board or PA announcement will have any effect on anything? If racists are angry over it then all the more reason to keep it going.

Bingo. People know enough to know that racism is generally seen as 'wrong' and is not how one would like to be viewed. So instead of making efforts to develop an empathetic self and interrogate their biases in an attempt to move beyond them, they just try to move the goalposts of what is considered 'wrong'. That way they get to be racist AND not have to worry about other people thinking less of them.

I see our turd of a local mp is stoking the culture war again. on 10:31 - Jun 3 by GavTWTD | I realise I may upset a few here but I would like an end to taking the knee. I know, I know. I think it should be replaced by something else, continually, frequently. Doing the same thing all the time doesn't have enough impact in my opinion. It doesn't enrage me, I just feel it isn't enough any more. Also, having an automated BLM message on sky annoys me. it's just something that is programmed in like a sponsorship message. It has no soul. |
....what a place this is.
