Of course he should have gone over his mishandling of the Coronavirus response rather than because of breaking social distancing rules. I find it notable that no one seems to have found any issue with him appointing the close friend to the role in the first place. |  |

Was just saying that to a mate. From a non-covid perspective, having a competent Tory hawk as Health Sec with an 80-seat majority could told untold damage (from my POV anyway) to the NHS. Hancock's biggest quality in that respect was that he was a complete idiot. | |

I suspect it was the half of the conservative party that have been opposed to lockdown that are the reason for this. I reckon they would have jumped on this as a reason to get rid of lockdown restrictions completely and he would be in a very weak position to say otherwise. |  |

I think it's obvious that if there was another lockdown, Hancock would have less than zero credibility in any involvement. His job was totally untenable, as was Cummings last Summer.
