Even if you allow for hyperbole, emoting and any margin for error this account and the context is dreadful.

That's like saying nobody should have voted Labour over the last few years because they had an element of antisemitism in the party. We'll have to agree to disagree but I stand by my initial remarks that some people voted brexit on the back of lies and many wish they hadn't. I bid you goodnight.

No it isn’t.

Oh and you blamed the EU difficult laws as well.

Are you Lord Frost by any chance?

Thanks for the mess by the way

No I didn't blame the EU laws. I said people didn't understand the laws. Goodnight.

Your second paragraph. Not true is it. Many people in this country didn't actually know what they were voting for because (1) The EU and its laws etc were way above what most ordinary folk could ever understand and (2) people were lied too about what leaving actually meant.

So you’re saying that we shouldn’t have had a referendum in the first place?

It's getting to the stage now where we all know someone who has been refused entry on returning to the United Kingdom or is being threatened with deportation, isn't it?

I worry about us as a country, we should be a bright beacon on a dark night for those who need refuge, help and a safe place from persecution instead we’re becoming more the very opposite of that core value.

I'll have my opinion and say what I want to say and if you don't like it then tough. The facts are that people were lied to and some voted for brexit on the back of those lies just as people do at every general election.

I agree with you, and no doubt we should save our ire for those who did the lying rather than those who feel for the lies.

However, my patience has run out with those who still refuse to see it for what it is now. I get that people invested so much that it’s difficult to accept how wrong you were but if anyone is still pretending they can’t see it now then they’re kidding themselves.

Having read the thread, ultimately the guy seems annoyed at having to fill in a form on behalf of his mum who is incapable. I think that says more about him than it does about me you and Brexit.

The current prime minister promised that the rights of EU citizens in the UK would not change after Brexit during and after the referendum. He is a liar.

My wife was born in a hospital in Malta as her father was serving in the Royal Navy and they flew her mother out there while she was pregnant. Her passport had always shown her birthplace as "Malta (GB)". Last time it was renewed it just said "Malta" and a few months later we went to Austria. This was before we left the EU. On arrival back at Gatwick she was held up by Immigration and questioned while I had to stand on the UK side and wait. Eventually I was called back to show our boarding cards and they let her through.

This has turned into a nasty country. Even the families of those who served it abroad are treated with suspicion.

And lapped up by their supporters, who no doubt will get a huge buzz from reading about the sad plight of a German.

I am british born and i live with my german wife in Germany, she retires next year and wants us to return to uk to live to be nearer our grandchildren and also because the uk treats its pensioners better than Germany. We are applying for her to reside in the uk under the EU resettlement scheme via the Surinder Singh scheme, the paperwork is horrendous, three times i have asked the EU ressetlement advisors to confirm she is applying under the correct section but to date have had no reply, comparing this with how i had to obtain a German residence card after brexit which was so simple and completed in 10 minutes. Sometimes i just give up all we want is to live as a couple claiming no benefits, but the British Governent is making life so difficult for us (oh and by the way she is a football mad fortuna supporter who wants a town season ticket i think she should be given settled status just on that grounds)

It goes without saying that Brexit was a monumental waste of time and effort more than anything. My main reason for opposing it was, if enacted that it would just create pointless bureaucracy in basically every process our economy and society does.

Take this example, pointless form is required for person who obviously should be able to stay forevermore. If it's not done and the Home Office try to do anything, then it will hit the media and the Tories will U-turn and/or make up the policy on the spot to make themselves looks less sociopathic/shambolic. Total waste of everyone's time and effort that has achieved nothing.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

after an obvious bung from UK Gov. Literally buying in the good news, whereas before we were a destination of choice.

While this is still good news, it's not quite on the scale of a free trade agreement with Liechtenstein, is it?

Not being funny, but the brexity mob are grasping at straws a little, aren't you? Even you can't think this is going well, can you?

If you were stupid enough to believe what was written on the side of that bus and voted on the same side as people like Farage, Gove and Francois then you are part of the problem.

Unfortunately there are many people who are that stupid, but there's probably an entirely separate class war argument there.

If we can't trust our politicians to not deliberately mislead people on such a massive scale, then democracy is dead.

The people need to hold our "leaders" to account. Otherwise this mess will simply continue. We are led by liars, thieves and disaster capitalists, yet many intelligent educated people continue to squabble for the scraps from their table.

Yes but that's because they've been paid a huge bribe by the government who were responsible for Brexit, and who need something to point to as a success. Along with their continued lies about the vaccine authorisation being sped up by Brexit.

The issue is that the rules were drawn up to be a) maximally exclusionary, and b) degrading. Also, for that matter, c) unnecessarily complex.

If having been married to a UK citizen, why should this lady have to do anything more than produce a copy of her marriage certificate to gain settled status? As a taxpayer, HMRC will already have a paper trail going back decades, which could have been accessed automatically. Part of the problem is that successive governments have not themselves kept or retained proper records (or can't be bothered to use them at this time), nor did they tell/require individuals to do so.

Reminds me of the situation during the Enclosure acts of the 18th and 19th centuries, when people whose families had tilled the land as by right for centuries were dispossessed due to the lack of written documentation from a time when such did not actually exist.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
