The noises at the club were that they were confident. Having outbattled the likes of Millwall, Coventry and Hull for other players, Middlesbrough were perhaps too big for us to compete with while at this level. |

Boro's move doesn't make you right. Even if we had offered a million it wouldn't have guaranteed anything, as a move to Boro is probably better for the player.
We also can't just go around offering a million for players willy nilly, just to be "done with it." This isn't Football Manager. |  |

Pretty obvious that once MBoro showed an interest it was more than likely that is where he would end up as close proximity and a Championship club . Warne quite rightly so is in the market for getting the best deal for his club . Clubs never accept first bids, it was testing the water, nothing more or less. Whatever happens it'll be undisclosed and Rotherham will allow the narrative to be that the fee was higher than it actually was. | | | |

Thing is, Town would’ve had an idea of what figure they were after, because otherwise, what’s the point in making £400k offers if they’re looking for £3m for him?
I suspect they wanted £1-1.2m, and Town would’ve hoped to get that down to £800k, so a £400k opening bid isn’t all that bad.
Real shame to lose out on him as he’s one which I really think would’ve took us to the next level in this League - and beyond. |  |

It doesn't take much logic to figure out both Rotherham and indeed Crooks were holding out for the best deal possible, the player will want the championship club as a general rule, so if we ain't gonna match what a championship side are bidding both in fee and his wages then lets move on!
We've seen how quickly players who really want to be here sign on the dotted line, we get things done nowadays so if Crooks really wanted to be here I'm of the opinion he would be by now as we are in a position to match most bids that would come in for him, we also know we aint gonna be daft about it, Crooks has his value for us if other teams value him more so be it!! |  | | |

even if we'd put in an acceptable bid, rotherham would've alerted championship clubs so they could sell elsewhere.

if we'd have put in a 1m bid, they'd have offered him around to other clubs (and/or asked for more), don't think we'd have any greater likelihood of getting him.
for the players we're probably seen on a level with some lower championship sides, but clubs like boro are still seen as a bigger draw | |
