You can tell the measure of a player if he chooses a league below where he could have been playing but to the same extent those teams may not have been the likes of Middlesborough, having said that I'm convinced already we have a team very very capable of a promotion push so waiting another year to go up isn't exactly a chore on a player, we are after all a team very much on the up and I'm not sure of Middlesborough's financial backing but what we have heard from our new owners they will be quite prepared to match teams in fee's and wages once we get to the championship so where other teams my be stagnating financially we have all forward momentum needed to succeed so as you rightly say others have chosen us cos they realise what exactly is happening with town!! |  | | |

It wasn't a snide dig, it was a pretty open one. You think you're right, but there's no evidence for it. As I said, just offering £1m to "get it done" is naive.
My dig wasn't nasty BTW. But if you're coming on here claiming you were right because Boro are now interested, and I don't agree (because of logic) then I'm well within my rights to say so.
If you think they'd have just accepted our one million (even assuming we should be offering that much, which isn't a given) and not bothered talking to anyone else (i.e. Boro) then you are very naive, sorry.

That supposes the funds available to us are far greater than it appears they are.
The initial believe of many once the new owners were installed as it was going to be a case of 'spend, spend spen'. Aftel all, did not those who were lending us have around £700bn ?
the flaw there being as with my mortgage. The bank has funds of hundreds of billions, it does not mean they will lend more than they can secure on my property and what I can reasonably afford to repay.
Sure, we are in a far better place than under Evans, but I think some supporters need to rein in their expectations, if only that L1 gate receipts etc don't go a long way in providing a surplus to pay interest on big loans.
So far the signings have been very modest in terms of money, which would suggest the way it will continue. The scum did much the same through getting in the right players. We appear to be doing the same. Motivated players backed by are more intense coaching set up.
It is early days yet. So much at the club is needed to be put right. I won't see it as a failure if we have not won the title by Xmas, or Easter ........even come the end of the season. To me, failure will be not having a fully focused and committed squad. Not then seeing PR nudging towards 20,000 crowds with a real buzz about the place.
It took Brentford a few seasons to get into the PL, just as it has taken the likes of Fleetwood and Morecambe to pull themselves up steadily from the non leagues. Get in the right structure both on and off the pitch and success will follow. |  | | |

I am not sure it mattered how much we offered - unless it was super ridiculous - Rotherham did not want to sell to a promotion rival.
Rotherham deliberately went public to alert other clubs of our approach they even told folk how much we bid.
Partly playing to their fans, partly not wanting to lose Crook to us.
You may believe a strong £1m bid would have sealed the deal, I personally do not. [Post edited 19 Jul 2021 19:03]

My thought are that we went as far as we could go on this one . Pretty obvious that once MBoro showed an interest it was more than likely that is where he would end up as close proximity and a Championship club . Warne quite rightly so is in the market for getting the best deal for his club . Well done on the transfer dealings so far Ashton and i would suggest he got wind of the fact he was being used by Warne to try and inflate the Crooks fee and dropped out of the bidding some time ago . |

Agree with that, would have been nice to have got Crooks, but I'm excited we got Fraser regardless, and at least he's not playing now for a promotion rival.

There are some Championship clubs we can beat and some we can't - prob 8 or so clubs who are either under embargo or can't pay the wages we do. Boro aren't one of these clubs - it happens.
A shame as would have been a cracking signing, but we can't compete with clubs like Middlesborough currently if they want someone enough |  |
