So...out of curiosity, did a totally (unscientific) tally of red light jumpers on my 20 mile round trip on the bike across London this morning...
Motor Vehicles: 8 (which included 2 double decker buses) Cyclists: 9 (which included 2 Santander bike riders, a cargo bike rider, and holding my hands up...myself - a scaffolding truck and Addison Lee minicab driver were occupying the bike box at a 3-way junction in Camden, so didn't want to give them the opportunity to flatten me) Pedestrians: 43
Awards for worst driving today go to the bus driver who swerved around me when I stopped for a red light so he could jump it, the white BMW driver who passed me way too close doing about 35mph in a 20 zone (and then jumped a red light), the Chestertons Estate Agent mini driver who was swerving onto the wrong side of the road to avoid speed bumps, and the VW Golf driver who pulled out in front of me from a parking space without indicating, forcing me to brake...
No major stupidity to report from cyclists today, but a rainy morning in London will have put off a lot of the casual cyclists (would normally expect about double the number of red light jumpers I saw today, for example)
As for the high pedestrian total, that's pretty much my experience everyday. Oh, and a special mention away from the roads...there is a special place in hell for the dog walkers in Hyde Park who stand on one side of the shared pedestrian / cycle paths and call their dogs over to them from the opposite side without checking if any bikes are coming - you, ladies and gentlemen, are a bunch of bellends.
How many car driver "pricks" are prosecuted each year for hit and run deaths? Indeed how many deaths of any kind are caused by car driver "pricks" compared to cyclist "pricks"? Suggest you just stop being a prick.

Yep, my experience in central London is that pedestrians are the worst of the lot.

Indeed. We don't see chico's posts on those, do we?

“Well actually what you should be angry about is this non sequitur I have chosen to shoehorn into the conversation” Seeing so much of this from the salty in this thread. It’s so weird, had no idea cyclists were such cry babies. All I’m saying is stop going thru red lights you pricks. Not that all cyclists are pricks.

No. You said "Attn: cyclists. Stop going through red lights you pricks."
Where are your posts attacking bad driving where people have been killed? This has happened on numerous occasions, but strangely I don't see any posts from you about it.
You're basically using a man's death to have a pop at cyclists. Shameful.

Your OP says...
"Attn: cyclists Stop going through red lights you pricks."
If you're conceding that "Not that all cyclists are pricks" then maybe your OP should read:
""Attn: cyclists If you go through a red light, you're a prick."
Just pointing out that the OP does read that you're calling all cyclists pricks...

“So what you seem to be saying is…” No. You don’t seem like a prick, but you went thru a red light on your bike. Good for you for admitting it.

Happy to be a prick and arrive home unharmed one more day - I did give my reasoning for doing so in that post - that there were 2 more serious pricks (the drivers of the Scaffolding truck and Addison Lee minicab) that were putting me at risk, and when I made the judgement call to do that, I made sure I didn't endanger any other road users.
Feel free to disagree with my previous post - wasn't arguing with you regarding your views on the poor grasp of road safety by cyclists, but your apparent poor grasp of the English language...

If there were cameras on the cyclist boxes, and many of them do have now, then the motorists will probably be looking at a £100 fine minimum and possibly 3 points on their license unless they waited for all cyclists to clear it before moving away. The lorry, potentially more.
A lot of motorists are going to be in for a shock with these, hardly anybody looks at the rules after they pass their test and it will soon start to be rigidly enforced in London. Motorists you have been warned.
(Addison Lee drivers are terrible, them and Deliveroo mopeds are my two biggest pet hates)
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I cycled through a red light by mistake this morning, was too busy staring at the van driver giving me the w&nker signal

Have an uppie for our shared disapproval of Addison Lee drivers - for the sake of fairness, will say that there are plenty of other terrible minicab drivers out there...they just don't have the misfortune of livery splashed all over their cars to get singled out.

Hey, you misunderstood and that’s ok, no need to take it out on me. Just stop jumping red lights, pricks do that.

As I pointed out earlier, pretty difficult to understand you when you have such a poor grasp of English; even took you to school on it (no charge) in my earlier post and it didn't help.
(Also doesn't help that you've flip-flopped a couple of times on what you meant by the OP in this thread)

Kind Regards, A Prick
Weird how many other people knew exactly what I meant. But people on the losing side in arguments on TWTD almost always fall back to Hurr Durr English Language to cover up for them misunderstanding something in the first place, like we should all have to pander to the lowest common denominator. Stop being a prick. Don’t go through red lights. It’s not hard. Or maybe it is. Just stop it.

Would it be too much to ask all humans using all forms of transport, whether feet, bicycle, tricycle, moped, scooter, motorbike, 3-wheeler, car, bus, van, lorry, taxi, flying car that happens to be on the ground at the time (R.I.P. TG) or horse & cart -
To please stop jumping red lights? I mean all those things require a human to operate them don't they (unless they're auto-bots which wouldn't dream of doing such a stupid, selfish thing anyway), so what's the difference?
Anyway, it would have been a comedy-gold thread for a wet Friday afternoon if someone hadn't sadly died. Which I hope is enough of a reminder to potential red-light-jumpers (which I guess is all of us) to think - then not do it.
I quite like a cycle around Liverpool from time to time, although there are some roads I'd just never chance. It's quite the ego boost whenever a Scouser catcalls me and praises my 'nice legs la'. I'd always thought of my legs as a bit hirsute for the average Joe but there we have it!
Fortunately it's quite easy to get down to the river via the scenic route from where I live so don't have to contend with too many pyschos in cars, although I see plenty of them when I drive around town. There are dickheads on both sides of the fence, but I'm a lot more concerned about the ones in automobiles.
"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Even better than that. Hopefully all people using the road will read up, be aware and follow the new Highway Code when published, or read up on the new things that are comming up and start following it straight away.

And the scientific (or at least more rigorous) surveys show pretty much the same thing - that cyclists are the least of our worries on the road. They're not as big red light jumpers as cars, the consequences of code braking are normally less (horrible case here though, and I'm certainly not condoning what the cyclist did) and then for cyclists, red light jumping is as bad as it gets, whereas you get speeding, driving on the phone, driving watching videos, driving typing texts, etc., etc.
Ridiculous that we've got a thread this long, unless chico's just fishing for bites. All this sort of talk does is fuel a them v us mentality and then before you know it you've got cyclists being deliberately targeted.
Even better than that. Hopefully all people using the road will read up, be aware and follow the new Highway Code when published, or read up on the new things that are comming up and start following it straight away.
Tbh, I've always kinda assumed they had most priority & treated them accordingly anyway, as they're obviously the most vulnerable, esp when you consider some are elderly/disabled/young kids.
It's not just in built-up areas & at lights either. Round here there's a single-track road on a steep hill incorporating blind bends, blind summits & few passing places - not even a verge in some spots - where I occasionally walk the mutt. The speed at which cars, vans, bikers & cyclists come whizzing down is actually life-threatening if you're on foot, or even worse horseback. I wouldn't walk it at all if my hearing weren't decent, & in that sense the cyclists are the worst, as they never sound their bells even if they have them.
