I think Derby are very restrained in what they can do... was reading that they can only sign 4 of the 5 trialists they have due to the embargo and have to pay well below average championship wage

You are right — I'd forgotten they have a limit of something like £4.5k a week. If we really wanted to do it we could presumably exceed that by enough to be a tempting option. [Post edited 1 Aug 2021 21:33]

Difference being that Flint is 32 years and in contact at Cardiff whereas Carroll is 28 and a free agent.
The midfield cover is a tough sell. From what I've heard, Carroll can play CDM and keep play ticking over like Evans.

Don’t get too carried away, as he’s been on a downward trajectory for a while. He did manage some PL performances over here (and looked ok) but tailed off fairly rapidly. He’s a funny player. He seems to not look out of place when surrounded by better players, but struggles to impose himself and lift others.
That said, I’ve not seen him play for 2 or 3 years and this would be a step down again, so he may be fine. My hunch though is that he’d get dragged down to our level. I think Dozzell would have had more to offer, but that boat’s sailed. | |
