Cowley is certainly trying to push the agenda hard here. He sounds very bitter not to have got Jacobs out of the door. What does that tell us?

I wanted Crowley here but by god I’m more than happy we didn’t go for him.

Their local press really have a bee in their bonnet too. This kind of stuff happens year in year out in transfer windows. Jealousy's the ugliest trait.

We should have told him directly, and it’s bad on our part if we didn’t. In fairness to Cowley he did say moves breaking down happen in football because the club switches target so he doesn’t seem to be blaming us for that.

Although it's a clever way if you wanted to stop a rival team from playing one of their best players in a key game. Put in a bid late in the week agree a deal and demand he isn't picked while the medical is happening/negotiating a deal and then after the game has finished pull out of the deal, perfect, if only the transfer window covered the whole season

Cowley really does seem to wind a lot of you up, but he doesn't say anything unreasonable or controversial there.

Or it’s a clever way of trying to sell a club if a player is split between two - “Look how they treated Michael, you’re not even be guaranteed to be signed until the very last moment. Whereas we’ll treat players like humans...”

Could be deemed posturing in the transfer market rather than caring about any of the players. I mean, I’m sure Cowley has released players and left them on the dole, for example, was he looking treating them like “humans” rather than a commodity then?

Someone on twitter suggested that they made the Morrell hijack story up to make it look like Portsmouth had ‘beaten’ us to a signing, wouldn’t put it passed them.

which actually sounds like he feels he has work to do there.

The affair as Cowley is presenting it reads very much as if he was desperate to move Jacobs on.

It has not come across as "we never wanted Michael to move and are really glad this deal has broken down. He will be an important part of our squad moving forward."

That'd be fine if it wasn't for all the pantomime stuff yesterday and previously this summer. He's spent as much time talking about us as he has Pompey.

Probably not true, but would explain why Eisner suddenly deleted the tweet thanking Luton for honouring the deal. If someone told him it was only ever Pompey.

If so I wouldn’t put it passed Ashton to come out, or leak to someone, that we were never interested in Morrell.

No. But I'm not precious or biased enough to find them unreasonable or controversial.
