The meal you have of an evening.. 09:26 - Aug 20 with 8771 views | artsbossbeard | ...what is it's official title? Lucan, who considers himself an educated man wrongly refers to it as "dinner" whilst the sane members of our whatsapp group call it by it's correct title of "tea". Settle an argument here, fellow blues.

The meal you have of an evening.. on 09:47 - Aug 20 by Pendejo | Genuinely not def info. There are more than 3 meal times in a day... Breakfast up to 10am from whenever you get up Brunch 10-12 Lunch 12-3 Afternoon tea 3-6 Dinner 6-9 Supper 9-12 Midnight feast 12-1 Anything after this is night shift territory and they can call it what they want. My theory is that "teatime" came about as kids will have a meal after school, thus at "(afternoon) tea time" and carried that into adulthood, whereas those who don't get home til after 6pm recognise it as dinner. Completely unscientific theory |
What about second breakfast?

Brunch is a dreadful Americanism. Down with this sort of thing. And it’s dinner obviously. Breakfast lunch tea (I’ll accept tiffin) dinner.

The meal you have of an evening.. on 10:04 - Aug 20 with 1361 views | Blowedifiwinit | If you've had a hot lunch (eg Sunday roast), you might have a cold tea (sandwiches, cake etc), but if you have a hot meal in the evening, it's dinner
The meal you have of an evening.. on 10:17 - Aug 20 with 1327 views | Bluebell | Dinner definitely although my grandmother's generation used to eat their meat and 3 veg at lunch time and called it dinner. Therefore it is the main meal of the day and called dinner whenever you chose to eat it. Tea is a cup of tea in the afternoon preferably with cake.
The meal you have of an evening.. on 10:19 - Aug 20 with 1316 views | fabian_illness | Dinner is between 12 & 2. There is absolutely no room for discussion on the subject. Tea is a meal to be taken any time after 4pm. ‘Afties’ is the dessert course that accompanies tea and it is to be withheld unless: 1) You have maintained exemplary behaviour in the hours leading up to tea. 2) You have completely finished what’s on your plate ‘or’ an apportioned segment of the left over food as designated by a responsible adult. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We might as well lock this thread now. It's just common sense.

The meal you have of an evening.. on 10:33 - Aug 20 with 1263 views | Bluespeed225 | I think it depends on the meal. Cooked, time taken, seated etc. That’s dinner. Beans on toast, on your lap, rushing it down after work, before a night game at PR, that’s tea.

That's pretty much where I am, nowadays. Tho as a child, the evening meal was sandwiches and cake with tea, almost never hot food (unless it was the middle of winter and we had sprats), thus I've always tended to call it "tea".

It's dinner, obviously.... on 09:35 - Aug 20 by Bloots | ....put it this way if you want to go out for a meal in the evening at a nice restaurant, you wouldn't phone them up and say "can I book a table for tea please?" Would you? Breakfast Lunch Dinner There would be exceptions for certain thick Northerners obviously, but most of them think that McDonalds is a restaurant, so they can't really be included. |
I have a couple of mates who live near Preston and apparently Nandos was voted by the public as their restaurant of the year.

Christmas Dinner is Christmas Dinner regardless of what time it is served. I hope that clears everything up.

If you have a fry up at 10:30 it's a late breakfast, or for you London types smashed avocado on rye with a poached egg on the side with saffron flakes and a shot of almond milk..... [Post edited 20 Aug 2021 10:53]

Just shows what an awfully pretentious place London is. ‘Brunch’ is a delicious snack bar to have with a cuppa, not a menu opportunity for bearded wannabes.

Second one sounds lovely. I think you can just about call a fry up at 10:30 a late breakfast, but if it were to be at 11, that would be brunch.

I think even at 11.30 a fry up is a late breakfast! If you were to have a club sandwich at that time it would be an early lunch!

Isn’t ‘brunch’ when you’ve missed the usual breakfast slot and it’s not quite lunchtime, so you have a hybrid crossover meal that covers both to satisfy your hunger pangs, but don’t be asking for lunch as well, as you’ve just eaten, the next meal will be your dinner…?
