The meal you have of an evening.. 09:26 - Aug 20 with 8739 views | artsbossbeard | ...what is it's official title? Lucan, who considers himself an educated man wrongly refers to it as "dinner" whilst the sane members of our whatsapp group call it by it's correct title of "tea". Settle an argument here, fellow blues.
| Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing. | Poll: | Raining in IP8 - shall I get the washing in? |

The meal you have of an evening.. on 10:53 - Aug 20 by fabian_illness | Just shows what an awfully pretentious place London is. ‘Brunch’ is a delicious snack bar to have with a cuppa, not a menu opportunity for bearded wannabes. |
There's nothing pretentious about wanting to eat nice food rather than a food colouring and e-number filled sugary snack bar.

The meal you have of an evening.. on 09:49 - Aug 20 by itfcjoe | Brunch isn't a thing - it's either a late breakfast or an early lunch depending on what you eat |
It is to me. It's defined by what you are having. To me brunch is: - somewhere you can get eggs Benedict, pancakes, trendy avocado etc - served from about 10-1 (latest) - is a substantial meal - alcohol is socially acceptable (mimosas/bloody Mary - not my thing though) - decent coffee - you are in zero rush - potentially a really expensive smoothie with 1,000 calories that purports to increase energy Stir in Cambridge is the best I've had. The meal you have of an evening.. on 11:16 - Aug 20 by hoppy | Isn’t ‘brunch’ when you’ve missed the usual breakfast slot and it’s not quite lunchtime, so you have a hybrid crossover meal that covers both to satisfy your hunger pangs, but don’t be asking for lunch as well, as you’ve just eaten, the next meal will be your dinner…? |
Pretty much this Also it’s acceptable to have a beer with brunch (or if you’re female 6 glasses of Prosecco), but not with breakfast - airports or pre-boarding a minibus excluded of course [Post edited 20 Aug 2021 11:29]

The meal you have of an evening.. on 10:57 - Aug 20 by itfcjoe | I think even at 11.30 a fry up is a late breakfast! If you were to have a club sandwich at that time it would be an early lunch! |
What if the menu says "Brunch menu"? You need to move with the times grandad.

Surely a pint at breakfast is also acceptable pre boarding a train for an away day? If not then I've had a few 9am brunches.

The meal you have of an evening.. on 11:51 - Aug 20 with 882 views | Ryorry | I call it "my main meal" - which covers my eating it any time between 8pm & 7am the following day. And maybe 'Sunday lunch' and 'Christmas Dinner' being described as they are, but being consumed at more or less the same time (albeit some people prefer Christmas dins to be a couple of hours later than Sun lunch) points to the nature of the food being eaten as the main reason for the category, Christmas dins usually meaning hot meat, spuds, cooked veg etc., Sun lunch could be much lighter or even cold.

A pint at breakfast is a wonderful thing and in moderation can, I think, be acceptable in any circumstances. Sometimes, if I am feeling European I might have a breakfast red wine.
