Brunch isn't a thing - it's either a late breakfast or an early lunch depending on what you eat |
It is to me. It's defined by what you are having. To me brunch is:
- somewhere you can get eggs Benedict, pancakes, trendy avocado etc
- served from about 10-1 (latest)
- is a substantial meal
- alcohol is socially acceptable (mimosas/bloody Mary - not my thing though)
- decent coffee
- you are in zero rush
- potentially a really expensive smoothie with 1,000 calories that purports to increase energy

I call it "my main meal" - which covers my eating it any time between 8pm & 7am the following day.
And maybe 'Sunday lunch' and 'Christmas Dinner' being described as they are, but being consumed at more or less the same time (albeit some people prefer Christmas dins to be a couple of hours later than Sun lunch) points to the nature of the food being eaten as the main reason for the category, Christmas dins usually meaning hot meat, spuds, cooked veg etc., Sun lunch could be much lighter or even cold. |  |
