A Chambers fist pump or a Holland jog around? I’ll pass thanks 😊

Getting on with my Sat night is more important to me. Not sure why it’s been met with such animosity. Each to their own.

I dunno, I just can't think of a feeling that's more purely joyful than a last minute goal that turns the game around. Nothing matches it for me. Just can't imagine why you'd willingly accept you'll never get to see one

Anyone want to admit to leaving before the winner? on 07:38 - Oct 24 by Bluebell

Blame the train timetables.

We decided to go by train yesterday. The train back to London leaves Ipswich station at 17.09. If we stay till the end of the game (especially when there are 5 minutes of injury time) we leave a couple of minutes before the end to miss the crowds pouring out of the ground. Even then we only just make it to the station on time. Luckily yesterday we saw the goal before we left. We eventually got home at 21.00!

Other days we drive from home but park at Stowmarket to avoid the 30 minutes trying to get out of Ipswich. The train to Stowmarket goes back at 17.06. Then we get home around 20.00.

I challenge anyone to risk staying until the end of the game and then catch the trains we catch.

Exactly. People regularly need to leave early to catch trains. Midweek 2144 makes a difference too and almost always need to leave early to catch that with a sprint to the station.

Really don't get it. A last minute winner is literally one of the biggest joys of watching live football and they don't happen that often so people who regularly leave early miss out on them every time.

I actually don't mind sitting in traffic as it is time to reflect on the game and listen to Mills and co give the post match analysis.

The same wasn’t sure how long it would take to get back to the station with the crowds now I know I’ve got a few mins extra I won’t be leaving early again

There's an obvious solution to this, games should kick off five minutes earler.

There were quite a few near us.

I don’t get it.

Only ever left any game early and that was the 1-5 v the scum and to be honest I was one of the last to go!

Love a late winner.

Whenever this topic gets mentioned I think of the people sitting near me in the Bolton playoff semi who left before the end at 2-3 muttering 'same old Ipswich....screwing up the playoffs'

Just that, it’s a football match.

The post pub wind down is just as much a part of that as sitting for 90mins.

If I watch the whole match I’m stuck in traffic for 45/60 mins, meaning I’m not home until 2hrs after it ends and the beers and curry get pushed back, don’t see the kids before bedtime etc.

Better to leave two mins before the end.
[Post edited 23 Oct 2021 19:53]

You've mentioned the "post pub wind down" but have talked about getting on the road before the traffic. Then you've changed 85 mins to two mins before the end.

You've never seen a goal after 85 minutes in 20 years.

You are by far the oddest football supporter on here, and that's going some.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

European Cup final in Barcelona in 99, George Best left on 90 mins with Utd a goal down.

To be fair, Bayern had played them off the park.

I missed the comeback against Wimbledon a few years ago, but I had to leave early to catch the train anyway even if we were 5 up at that point I still couldn't have stayed. I still missed the train. I now simply cannot go to the late games on weeknights because the Cambridge train is too unreliable.

I’ve left early so many times it hurts Over the last few years or so. Just didn’t enjoy being at Portman Road, was a waste of money really getting a ST but did so out of habit.

Paul Cook and co have got me back in love with the club. Had such a buzz before the game, one I hadn’t had for some time.

And guess what, I was there until the end. Come on you blues!

No, but I just missed the first one as my half time pint was too cold to neck quickly after waiting quite a while for someone in front of me to get chips with their pint

Only once I left early. Game against Oxford. Missed Glenn Pennyfather scoring. Lesson learnt.

I’ve only ever left early once. But it was the worst one ever to leave. Ipswich 3- 2 Coventry in 2010.

I had to be somewhere after the game so left the game well into injury time with us winning 2-1. I could hear the away fans cheering just as I left the ground and thought the game had finished 2 each until I turned in BBC Suffolk in the car to find out we won 3-2.

Never left a game early since.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

This seems to be a common example.

I was with my Dad for that game and he always leaves at 89 mins to miss traffic unless it’s tense. He wanted to leave at 89 and for once I convinced him to stay. Even after the equaliser I was practically dragging him back to the seat and boy did he thank me.

Still made us leaving Reading (A) early a few years ago when Klug was in charge because of those bloody buses you have to catch. We were 2-0 up and heard two cheers, couldn’t get signal and didn’t know if we’d drawn 2-2 or won 4-0 - thankfully the latter but not sure I’ve been to a game with him since!

I was at that game. Rather a good ending :-)

Around that time I once left Oldham away at half time when we were 4 down and I didnt have a proper coat. Hammered it down and an open terrace made for a horrible afternoon.

Genuine conversation:

BL: Can I leave please?
Copper. No exit until 15 mins after final whistle for the away faans.
BL. But I might die of cold.
Copper. Only exception is ejections.
BL. What do I need to do to get ejected?.
Copper. Swear a bit.
BL. Tits, bollllocks, w@nkers.
Copper. That'll do. Am now ejecting you for ....
BL. (Shaking his hand) Cheers mate.

Absolutely not.

It’s in a list of things that shouldn’t be done at a football match along with:
- ‘Please _____ can I have your shirt’
- Bringing a flask of tea/bovril to a game

If you ever miss the 5:09, just jump on the 5:18 from Platform 3 in future I’d say. That’s what I do. Does the same stops

I wasn't at the game today but whenever I go with my Grandad he leaves on 86 and I leave on 89. I've missed the odd goal, I missed both a Coventry goal and Counago's winner in my very first game. My grandad likes to beat the traffic, whether or not he's driving, and I'm not too fussed.

I do remember leaving a home game vs Reading in 2011(?) with Town 2-1 up, hearing Reading equalise as I was walking out the back of the Cobbold, then hearing Reading score the winner just I was about to cross the road to the old police station.

One of my favourite memories as an Ipswich fan was leaving early vs Derby in 2014 at 1-1. Hearing a roar from the crowd while walking along Portman Road as Town won a corner. My brother and I ran through the open gate in the lower corner of the stand (u2 or u3) just in time to watch the corner being taken and Berra nodding home the winner. Wicked moment.

Doesn’t your last paragraph rather illustrate the folly of always leaving early??

Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010

I leave after 85 minutes every time and sometimes am on the A14 before the match ends. I could count on both hands how many goals I have missed in 20+ years
