He really wouldn't. There's a reason Downes is looking very capable in the second tier and it's because he's a very good player. The notion that he's not as good as two late 20s CMs plying their trade for us in League 1 is rather odd. |
Downes done nothing for us the final seasons as didn’t want to be here and will continue to not want to be here. a good player when not trying to prove his worth but towards the end the failed move got to his head and he was a liability every game.
Morsy is a far better player currently than Downes who I did rate but doesn’t come any where close to the level that Morsy has been playing at and what he brings to the team currently.
I’m liking the look of how the team is building and developing an understanding and for me Morsy is the final piece we were missing. A class above in my eyes. |  | | |

Downes would be a starter for us but wanted out
Sounds a bit silly, but I think Drinan would be a better option for us than Jackson will be as the 3rd/4th choice striker so would have kept him and let KJ go
Sadly, at the moment, Hladky doesn't look any better than Cornell so I'd rather have kept the £300k transfer fee and extra wages Hladky is no doubt getting!

The problem with Bishop is his fitness. He is not the player he was and could he be relied on with that? To turn this around, I think there were more errors made in the players we actually did retain than those we let go.
I was happy to retain Norwood at the time as I thought he might offer something a little different. But as with the previous seasons (less than 50% of games played), he can’t keep fit. Nolan and Jackson should have been got rid of.
With regard to the discussion re Chambers, Col U fans were happy to see him dropped last night (the ‘Ipswich Old Guard’). I can’t see that he would add anything to us as a player now. |  | | |

I think things are exaggerated - if Cook has decided our best 2 CBs are Edmundson and Toto, then id rather see Woolf and a 36 year old Chambers on a small deal as 3 and 4 than having spent £750k on Burgess and giving him a 3 (or 4, can’t remember) year deal as he doesn’t look like one who will be able to come through the division with us.
If we were talking Bradley, Edmundson, Toto and Woolf it’s a different matter but feels as though Burgess ends up being a bit of a waste, like Hladky is looking like being too | |
