I'm bored with arguing about football, so how about we argue about music instead?
I'm going with Oasis. I didn't get them at the time, and whenever I hear them now I just don't understand how they became so big. I was listening to a 90s indie compilation whilst decorating earlier and this came on. Its like a big checklist of 90s indie cliches all cobbled together in one song - dreadful and cheesy lyrics, token string section to make it sound anthemic, key changes to add emotion, about 4 minutes too long. It sounds like something that Robbie Williams rejected.
These chorus lyrics though....
All around the world You've gotta spread the word Tell them what you've heard You're gonna make a better day All around the world You've gotta spread the word Tell 'em what you've heard You know it's gonna be okay
Also, these lyrics...
Na na na na Na na na na Na na na na Na na na Na na na na Na na na na Na na na na Na na na Na Na Na na na na na na na na Na na na na na na na na Na na na na na na na na Na na na na na na na na na na na na na

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

You don't become a racist over night. Morrissey is a far right supporter. That aside, The Smiths were just dreadful. Head in the oven stuff. Music is subjective, but come on, that lot really knew how to get you down. Would rather feel happy listening to music thanks.
Depressed and introverted is where it’s coming from. But musically it’s often joyous and the lyrics are pretty funny sometimes.
Morrissey is certainly a talented lyricist – but never read his books, they are absolutely dire. I think he’s only suited to rhyming couplets and one-liners.

The personification of why someone needs an editor.
Funnily enough, I believe there's another forum user who believes his fiction is genius! I'll leave you to guess who...

I've read through this whole thread, I love Queen and you're all wrong about them. Status Quo were always about having a bloody good laugh playing 12 bar blues as mates. My nomination is Coldplay :)

Can I shout our dearly beloved Ed?
Or is this a banning order.
That ginger fecker followed me all round Asia on my latest trip.
It was also the week that Mark E Smith died so me and my buddy hijacked some bars' laptops to pay tribute to the mighty Fall. Think we may have turned some people away :)

Fools Gold was a single, not on the original album.
Going to get absolute pelters, multiple down votes and Phil may well ban me....but my answer is:
The Clash
There I said it, maybe you needed to be there at the time. Can't listen to their tracks more than once...just not for me.
You’re an awful person. I’d agree that the Clash never worried about quality over quantity but still probably the best and most musically interesting punk band. Some absolute gems in there.
On that note: I propose the Style Council. Doesn’t come close to the Jam on energy and versatility and I can barely listen to them.

The answer is clearly Coldplay who have added nothing to music and forged a career out of writing lift music that somehow tbe masses have been brainwashed into buying.

“I’m down on my knees, searching for the answer… Are we human or are we dancer?” ... Bad on multiple levels.
"I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" ... Repeated for half the song. Doesn't even make sense. Two impactful words don't make an impactful sentence. I've got ham, but I'm not a hamster. Same thing. I've got a car, but I'm not a carnivore. Same thing. Just so bad and people lapped it it like it had some sort of hidden depth.

Yeah, but were you wearing epaulettes when you were going on about your ham?
Exactly.

True, though it was added to the subsequent versions of the albums released.
Yes it was, but for me Fools Gold is a departure from the overall album musically. I get the fact that Ian can't perform live but still The Stone Roses album was seminal... John Squire at his best post that a couple of good tracks on the Second Coming but it all petered out imho.
