I'm bored with arguing about football, so how about we argue about music instead?
I'm going with Oasis. I didn't get them at the time, and whenever I hear them now I just don't understand how they became so big. I was listening to a 90s indie compilation whilst decorating earlier and this came on. Its like a big checklist of 90s indie cliches all cobbled together in one song - dreadful and cheesy lyrics, token string section to make it sound anthemic, key changes to add emotion, about 4 minutes too long. It sounds like something that Robbie Williams rejected.
These chorus lyrics though....
All around the world You've gotta spread the word Tell them what you've heard You're gonna make a better day All around the world You've gotta spread the word Tell 'em what you've heard You know it's gonna be okay
Also, these lyrics...
Na na na na Na na na na Na na na na Na na na Na na na na Na na na na Na na na na Na na na Na Na Na na na na na na na na Na na na na na na na na Na na na na na na na na Na na na na na na na na na na na na na

I actually like a lot of Morrissey's solo stuff, maybe even more so than some of the Smiths. But of course Marr's sound added so much to the Smiths. Never liked much of his solo stuff, oddly.
But now the LBF has disbanded, I am free to speak my own truth without fear of being kicked out!
I saw him play at Yarmouth pier about 10 years ago - doing the years of refusal album - which was really good.

In all fairness - I think a lot of bands we love have personal viewpoints or behaviours that would have us hating their members as people. I mean, John Lennon wanted us all to change the world - but what he didn't tell us is that he was a massive fan of Call of Duty.
That's very true. He's often credited for his song writing, less so for his involvement in developing modern first person shooter videogames.
Funny what people forget, isn't 8t?

Think I’ve suffered the curse of 25th post… or does nobody agree?
This sex is on fire is a bit of an embarrassing lyric to a reasonable tune? I quite liked that sound of rambling / muffled lyrics - but I don't listen to them at all. So I agree with reservations!

In full agreement, is a toss-up between them and Queen.
The EADt boys hate Queen too. Was there some sort of incident at the press box? Did rob Chandler lock you all in and perform some sort of Stars In Their Eyes thing as Freddie against your will?

It must have been one hell of a seance that the CoD lot attended when they got the details from twenty three year dead Lennon...
Rumour has it that the first CoD maps and weapon designs were developed by him and lost for decades in the files of Apple Corp. There were then some legal wranglings which meant they didn't see the light of day till decades later. A true innovator.

Was rarely off my turntable in the late 1970s. Genesis were a real outlier then - their records didn't sell that well & I think they were usually in debt. Eventually, after Peter Gabriel left, they cracked the US market in the 1980s with a different style & became rich.

To be honest I was enthralled by the 'Nursey Crymes' and 'Foxtrot' albums but a little nonplussed by 'Selling England By The Pound' when it came out. I'd seen them at a festival but they had made no impression, then at the Pier Pavilion in Felixstowe in 1972 before a couple of hundred people. That autumn they packed out the Ipswich Civic College and similarly sold out the Gaumont early 1973 when 'Foxtrot' came out. But I lost interest when Gabriel left in the mid 1970s (his early solo albums were much more in keeping with how I saw the World back then) but I thought they did keep the show on the road well and went from strength to strength in terms of popularity in the late Seventies and early Eighties when much Prog and AOR floundered in the face of punk and new wave.
To give my assessment of a few of the suggestions in here:
U2 - great up to a point, utter toss after then, possibly not overrated on balance. Green Day - Dookie came out when I was 18 and it has happy memories, but no way should they be filling stadiums. Overrated. Bruce Springsteen - I'm with Mullet, not overrated. Queen - some good bits, some overblown toss too. Overrated. Kings of Leon - some great albums followed by some serious toss. Overrated on balance. The Beatles - not overrated, though definitely over exposed over the years. The Smiths - Morrissey is a top arsehole, but def not overrated.

Nursery Cryme & Foxtrot were a little too off the wall for me, although I liked Supper's Ready. Selling England by the Pound still my favourite. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was Gabriel's excellent swan-song. Trick of the Tail was a great start without Gabriel, although a little more commercial. Wind & Wuthering seemed to be going back to the quirkier Genesis style, but I thought it average, as was And then there were 3. Duke was when the direction really changed & I stopped buying their albums.
