We don't really know who might be available at this stage though. I think appointing Warnock for me would be such a ridiculous step, it would represent a real failure of strategy from the club.

Yeah perhaps you're right but long term strategies do change when the shi!t hits the fan for a short period of time before you can get back on track

Truth be told (and if we believe it ) PC was never their choice ,so was that if factual , seen as short term ?

I'm as lost as everyone else

It's the not knowing that kills you in the end ...either that or supporting this club for more than 40 years as I have

He would be ideal until the end of the season,if its going ok, offer him another year,he would take it,he cant leave football alone and he loves Town. We need someone who is respected and can do a job,he is that guy.Get promoted in 2 seasons then look at it again. Id take him over Lennon, Bircham and Manning(who just hasnt been managing long enough).

I really wouldn't put the words Warnock and ideal together when thinking about appointing an ITFC manager at this point in time.

I don't get Warnock, after his stint at Palace 5 years ago he said he wanted to call it a day and retire to Cornwall, since then he's been at QPR, Rotherham, Cardiff and Boro.

Kernow Border Force still finding ways to delay his visa.

(I quite like him.)

I'd maybe have gone for Colin had we any real chance of going up this season. But let's face it, we really don't - sadly.

So I'd be more interested in giving the new man (or indeed woman) the rest of this season to settle in and assess the situation. As you say though, no clue who that would be at the moment!

Im a little worried still that we could get drawn into the bottom of the table unless the players mentally switch on.

I could see the Charlton performance coming. Too many of them liked Cook and just went flat.

I don't think Warnock would tolerate that and getting a "fresher" to pull them out of it might be hard.

But...yes better to implement the strategy now and stick with it. I want us playing good football. I can stomach some bad results if we play well.

It baffles me that some on here still have a burning hatred for Mick but now some of the very same people seem to want Mick on steroids.

When McCarthy came in it was exactly what the club needed. We were in a mess.
Can weigh up how that compares to now being in a lower league etc etc and what is deemed the current unbalanced situation.
Warnock is not a long term solution to the future if ITFC. Age regardless, he just is not.
However any new, young & bright next big thing will need a decent enough platform to start from.
Ideally competing in this years play offs or promoted already.
We need momentum.
Warnock gives basis and momentum. He may be a bit Mick but the steroids part is he attacks more and with this squad in this league with the situation we find ourselves in I struggle to see who else on that list will give an instant bounce. I really do.
So why not unless we want to bob under the playoffs and start with a whole new system now. I don't feel anyone has that patience in the fanbase.

And Brazil trying to sell it to him

He didn't knock it back ,he did suggest it would only be until the end of the season if he was interested / offered it because he was always looking at wrapping up at the end of the season anyway

Indeed - and allows us to cast the net wider and deeper in the summer.

I just don't see any value in bringing him in for the rest of the season. Plus I can't stand the bloke either so would be gutted to see him leading the club I support.

I used to hate him too, but have mellowed towards him in recent years.... I think he secretly enjoys the whole pantomime villan character he plays, and he's always said he liked us as a club.

Would take him over a number of others in a heartbeat.

I think he needs 16 more games to break the record of most league games managed in the UK, that might be a tiny carrot.

Up and mainly down, following Town since 88

If our main target isn't willing to come at this stage and we stand a better chance of getting him in the summer, then I don't see Warnock as a short term (sh!t or bust) for this season them i'm not against that.

Well, he would have some respect. I dont think this group of players would have any for a young coach. They didnt for JM the other night, and he isnt that young, but put someone in front of them that makes them think that they better not come off the pitch after a performance like the other night might get the right reaction. Bunch of prima-madonnas.

Think that's an incredibly simplistic view to be honest. Warnock is a hard no from me, really baffles me to see so much support for appointing him but each to their own.

You can't base the squad's reaction to a younger coach on one bad night. The players were clearly still absorbing the loss of a manager many of whom enjoyed playing under. The game arrived 48 hours after Cook's dismissal, so there was little time for the players to get their head in the game.

Regardless, if the club goes down the road of a Neil Warnock-type appointment, it will be a catastrophic failure of the ownership's strategy. Full stop. All the talk of long-term roadmaps would be rubbished in a heartbeat. If they are serious about taking this club forward the right man needs to be in now, not June 2022.

If they enjoyed playing for Cook so much how come they looked so bad for at least 60 minutes of most games ? They came for the money not Cookie.

In his documentary he spoke about thinking about retirement 'a year or two ago'

That was filmed in the 2006/07 season!

More than happy to see him take it until the end of the season.

What's the alternative? Neil Harris or Neil Lennon? No thanks.

....or we could have just stuck with Cook, a far better option than all those mentioned.

All seems like a lot of unnecessary upheaval for little short term benefit. Could have reviewed the situation at the end of the season.

But Cook so obviously wasn't *their man* that they jumped at the first opportunity to boot him out unceremoniously.

Even Harry Houdini wouldn't get this lot promoted this season.

We need to appoint for the long term now and accept that whoever comes in may need a season or two to get it right. Otherwise we're going to be in a state of purgatory for years to come.

I thought abracaDobra meant just 'get us up the league table' ? not as in promoted?

I'd take Warnock till end of season just to kick a few backsides, remind them that fans are actually shelling out their hard-earned (contrast & compare with those players) to watch them, & get us organised, disciplined & playing as a cohesive unit.

Our priority right now is to stop the rot & steady ship; we can progress from there with a different manager when better long-term options become available - small pool of only moderate (except for Lamps) fish atm.

The talk of long-term roadmaps disappeared when they sacked Cook after 1 transfer window.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Possibly, although which candidates in particular that we can't get now would be available in the summer? If we're thinking someone like Manning, what if he takes MK Dons up? That would put him further out of reach than he is now.
