If the government imposes new restrictions will you follow them? on 15:08 - Dec 21 by Guthrum
I think there will be changes to the way we live as a result of Covid.
But at the moment we're staggering from emergency reaction to emergency reaction as the waves come through. And by "we", I mean the whole world. This situation needs some leadership and coherent planning, not just a pious hope that things will "get back to normal".
Like you say, prioritising healthcare provision and funding. Also research into treatments, better detection and prevention measures. Even things like better broadband so people can zoom (or whatever) without technical glitches.
Eventually, we can be in the position of living with Covid without mass hospitalisation and deaths.
Yep, there is a big difference to what some politicians mean by “learn to live with it” and what actually should happen in order to deal with it.
I am of course heartened by all the people that are citing mental health as an issue , I can’t see why it shouldn’t be suitably funded by the “government” in power.

I'm with you on this. Get jabbed and get on with life.
I do wonder if a rare, but possible, side effect of Covid, was impotence followed by full withering of male sexual organs, attitudes would be slightly different.
E.g. yep you’re fully vaccinated and boosted, it is about 6 months old, don’t worry about this variant, most peoples d1cks will still be fine, only a few will fall off for people with the old vaccine.

I'm not that sexually adventurous, sadly.
Just stating common sense. Everyone is bored of restrictions but you can't bargain with a virus. The more you don't take personal responsibility or follow the rules, then the more likely it is that more restrictions will be necessary. Even if those rules are put in place by absolute c***s.

It is a fair question though to wonder where it all ends?
Do we have 600 booster jabs and have lockdowns for the next 35 years if there’s more and more variants? Or do we eventually decide that the mental health of the nation, with things such as seeing friends and family over holidays, has to be the most important thing rather than Covid. I think it’s a fair question as someone who in one of the lockdowns deteriorated and knew two people a year ago in December who killed themselves, with lockdown a part of it.

It is a fair question and one well above my paygrade to answer.
Although I would say that each year the flu jab changes depending on the new variants and which are most prevalent in that year and more deadly to older folk. I guess that would be the same thing with the covid variants eventually once the boffs have their heads around it all. In the meantime, though, all we can do is wait and attempt to stop the spread if we can.
If your car is fecked you don't take it to the butcher's to get fixed, so for now I'll sit tight and do as I'm told, or as I believe is necessary according to the scientists and doctors. They know far more than you or me about this, or indeed anyone posting on a football forum.
I know it's been hard for everyone, myself included, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying to do the right thing where possible. Otherwise more restrictions will be in place and we'll be back to square one. Already feels that way, I know, but we just have to ride it out for now, Rommy.

Might as well get it again and have long covid, I suppose.
Sort of like a football sticker book for serious respiratory illness.
I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It took me 11 months to feel normal again (as opposed to right, which I’ve never been!).
I’ll happily wear a mask, WFH, not go on a pub crawl at Christmas or miss the footie if it means not catching it again or passing it on to just 1 person.

Had it, survived.
Unsure what else I should do.
Fantastic news.
Any thoughts about the 20m worldwide who weren't so lucky or the 180 a day in this country who aren't as lucky?
Any restrictions are going to be very short and probably not very harsh. A couple of weeks restrictions for the good of everyone. It's not going to be anything like what was experienced previously so direct comparisons wouldn't seem that valid.

Because it's got to the point now where some people cannot cope anymore. For those who are managing, mentally, then it's fine and that's completely understandable. That doesn't mean those who are struggling and might decide to push the rules to one side for the sake of their well-being should be dismissed either.
Maybe Johnson's over-the-top lying to create a false positive future is coming back to haunt him. He told the country (more than) one thing and cannot deliver. People then struggle to process things are worse than they hoped. Is this Christmas better than last year? Certainly doesn't feel like it.

Let's hope not.
To be fair though Texters we haven't experienced a 'lockdown' as such have we?
I think most of us acknowledge don't we.
I mean, during the first 'lockdown' everyone was still popping to the supermarket/local store for whatever they wanted.
I do feel, and am concerned, for small business who seem to get crushed whilst the big firms; i.e. Tesco and the like, fecking thrive under stricter measures, because they can.
For every pint/meal consumed at home can mean an employer somewhere might well go under.
This is why I get a bit irritated by those whose lives aren't effected on a scale where they might lose their homes but who are just a bit fed-up of being unable to do what they would like. I don't blame them for being pissed off but it's not the same thing is it.
If we ever go into [another] lock-down I fully intend to put as much business I can into any local independent I can who provide delivery/pick-up services. That much we could maybe do.
