If you'd read one or two of Badges longer posts from earlier in the pandemic...there was some dark humour there. As well as being eye opening for many that were not aware of what's going on.

Silly answer. In UK 1 in 3 positive tests are people not showing any symptoms it because we test far more than most that our case count is so high. You are right no one tests for the fun of it they test for a number of reasons many because their employer requires it, others because they have been identified as someone who may have been in contact with some0ne who has tested positive.. Personally I have tested five times, once after wife tested positive and the other occasions prior to attending indoor events as wanted to ensure tested negative. Had any of those tests been positive would have stayed at home. Yes I am triple jabbed..

Personally. Id rather stay safe and not take away sometimes chance to live longer for the sake of 90 minutes of football that can be watched on a TV screen. But each to their own

This would be the best end state but I don't think we are there yet. If people stop taking the vaccine we will be back a number of steps and even where we are there were 301 hospitalisations in London today, the highest since January. SB

Doesn’t London have 30% unvaccinated population? Looks like the rest of us are going to suffer some form of restrictions because of the capital. If London is bad then lockdown London.

A vaccine passport would inevitably give people the freedom they desire. It's weird and contradictory that there are groups out there who are against everything that could be the gateway to what they claim they want.

106000 cases on 20:35 - Dec 22 by jas0999 | The more you test the more positive cases you will get. Most just have moderate colds. Two to three years ago you’d crack on with life. Jabs and boosters are working. |
We just don't know yet. We might have half the hospitalizations per 1000 cases, but as its more transmissible we might have double the cases. I realise this splits the room but be kind please.

Everyone is virtually unvaccinated with regards to Omicron unless you have had a booster for at least 2 weeks which really isn't a big percentage across the UK at the moment. You're not going to suffer anything because of anything in England - your policy is entirely determined by the SNP. SB

106000 cases on 20:52 - Dec 22 by _sanctimoanious_ | time to change the record pal. Yes, it is a serious illness but it's weakening and we simply cannot lock ourselves away forever. Protect the vulnerable and the healthy can continue to live their lives. The answer to the 'overwhelming the NHS' narrative is for this useless self serving government to fund it and staff properly and responsibly. No more sensationalist fear mongering please. |
Complete assumptions, this strain maybe be weaker it may not, also the next may not, if we let infections run riot we open ourselves up to a variant like this one but potentially worse. We haven’t locked away forever, we had from June to December with the most minimal restrictions. We need to limit infections to contain this risk, after 12 years of underfunding and 2 years of covid the nhs is on its knees, that won’t change for some time. The need to protect it is now.

We were at 50% of the adult population boisred a week ago. They are doing a million a day so we can't be far off 80%. I think it was either Whitty or JVT who said the booster will give good protection after seven days. So again, we can’t be far off that. If 30% of London is unvaccinated then I would imagine the take up of the booster will be similar. Re your final point. Unless the UK government re introduces furlough and other financial support, then the SNP govt are pretty hamstrung and won’t go for harsher restrictions. I fear that decisions will be made by the uk govt based on London hospital admissions.

I was a triage nurse at Harold Wood in the early 00s. Funny how the regulars round on people on here really. If you don't agree with total lockdown measures you're instantly someone who doesn't follow the rules and selfish. The usual sanctimonious polarised arguments. I like all the saints on here have followed all the rules TO THE LETTER. have worn a mask before they were compulsory and jabbed as soon as possible. I'm not bothered about the football games being called off, I was simply saying we need to protect the vulnerable by being sensible and considerate. There is sometimes that middle ground to things and I always try to find it. Some on here can be very aggressive from their moral perch which provokes an aggressive (I guess that's the intention) and sometimes childish response.

That seems wildly optimistic but maybe you’re right. Hope so for everybody’s sake. It does raise a question though; original variant, Delta, Omicron…. Whatever comes next - and it will - what then? Is the new normal going to be masks, testing, isolating, WFH. Is that way of life sustainable? Preferable to death, obviously, but when do we get back to normal? Or more importantly, can we?
