Looking at some of the comments on here reckon this is worth a read:

"You aren’t going to change those minds by being judgmental, preachy, and downright insulting.

You’ll get a feeling of feeling superior, and if that’s the main thing you’re after, fine, keep on doing what you do."

Let's see if empirical evidence changes his mind.

I suspect it won't so what are we left with after that? If actual evidence doesn't work I am interesting to hear what is going to work. I don't think that letter in the article would make any difference whatsoever given what he's already stated in this thread.

I'd also say that article is quite old now, the situation is different, we are another 7 months along with no real movement in persuading that side of the debate and the issues it is causing are clear. It also states about getting to herd immunity and that's not really possible with covid at the moment with the tools we have.

I think many people are simply running out of patience and understanding.

Only scratches the surface of why some aren't getting jabbed, but interesting nonetheless. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jan/02/understanding-not-judgemen

Anyone willfully believing the misinformation is a special case and probably a lost cause, but I'm sure there's much more that could be done to reach out to some of the marginalised groups. The government won't, but maybe councils or community groups/charities could do more?

This isn't about insulting people at all, but it's clear that there's only so much the carrot works until you need the stick.

Sage member Stephen Reicher has made the point many times previously, insulting people is counter productive if you wish to change their stance. I can't be arsed to locate them all, but google is available to anyone to verify should they wish to read his position.

Is really simple, those calling others selfish, stupid etc. are merely reinforcing hardened positions. I know it's frustrating but it doesn't help.

The advice is for those who wish to change opinions, far better to calmly "ask what you object to" and take it calmly from there. Many people have legitimate concerns, which whilst they don't stand up to strong scrutiny are not likely to be changed by insulting them...

Anyhow - I know you always challenge the position not the person - but many don't...

Calling people thick is insulting. The majority aren’t thick. In younger age groups, they weigh up the chances of getting seriously Ill with Covid and make a judgement call based on the chances being relatively small.

They are selfish though though, and that isn’t insulting. It’s a Statement of fact. Having made the judgement call in my first paragraph, they are showing a total disregard for their elderly relatives and the general population in the middle of a pandemic.

Nope, selfishness is matter of opinion not fact Glassers.

I might even agree with your position in many cases, but I still don't say it as I simply think it is counter productive.

I have him on ignore, so no idea what he has posted.

As for the BMJ article I led you all to, in this respect you have, collectively, ably highlighted why it is not possible to have any balanced discussion on this topic with any of you, much like any other time here. None of you are prepared to accept that you may need to change your view, or have based your views too hastily, on poor information fed to you. You simply brushed over/ completely ignored anything that didn't suit your agenda in the BMJ article (which should be taken as part of a bigger picture of course, not just representative of the entire pandemic on its own, but you're all too lazy to bother with the research necessary to build a better picture of the real numbers) as I knew you would. You make no comment on, or acknowledge the HUGE discrepancy between the media claimed numbers of "unvaccinated" being admitted to critical care and indeed not just critical care, but via other Covid hospital admissions (unless of course "hospital resources" aren't taken up by general admissions for the purposes of your agendas?) which is of course vastly made up of fully vaccinated individuals.

But hey, lets not let reality get in the way of the groups poorly formed opinions and biases.

Additionally, on a far darker underbelly theme of all this, it is very hard to distinguish the groups stigmatism towards "the great unvaccinated" from the kind of stigmatism the world has suffered towards skin colour and religion over the years. Of course, you'll all convince yourselves that this is completely different, but perhaps you should stop and have a real good think for a minute about what you are saying and doing and realise you are actually no different at all, they all probably believed what they were saying/doing was right too.

That doesn't make any sense and once again you've not actually cited any evidence.

All you've done is say we don't understand the article (which I disagree with) and then claimed you've understood a deeper meaning which you haven't actually explained. It's hugely hypocritical to say we've ignored anything that doesn't suit our agenda in the article when virtually the whole article supports what we are saying so it might be worth looking closer to home with regards to ignoring things that don't suit ones agenda.

Why don't you have another go at explaining it with some actual figures, evidence and if possible some scientific papers. It should be easy for you to provide this information given your previous posts. I've provided a post with empirical evidence which you've ignored.

As for your paragraph, I think that's rather unsavoury to be honest given skin colour is a genetic inheritance through which the individual has no choice and not taking a vaccine is something that is entirely in the control of the individual with evidence to support it being the right course of action in the majority of cases.

Macron’s comments are completely beyond the pale. Really vile stuff. In a just world, his election hopes would now be toast.

In the real world what Macron has said works in his favour as far as re-election is concerned.

You need to understand how France elects a President. There will be at least 10 candidates in the first ballot. The top two then go into a second ballot. In reality Macron is certain to win as long as he gets to the second ballot where he would face either an extreme right, or left, candidate.

He only made the second round last time because the socialist vote was split between more than one left wing candidate.

"ask what you object to"

This has been tried for over a year now with little progress.

I agree insulting people isn't going to help but nobody has really put forward any method that is going to help. When evidence is disregarded as MSM bias, scaremongering or communist scientists then it's hard to see where one can go from there.

That is why I believe many are simply losing patience with being understanding towards this cohort.

FFS man your last paragraph sums it all up, do you even realise what you're doing/saying? Was it something like this that went through your head "errrr, I have to reply with something, but he makes a good point about the skin colour/religion thing, perhaps we are saying/doing things that are marginalising and stigmatising the population unfairly, crikey Boris has us exactly where he wants us and we didn't even realise it, we're lefties for christs sakes, but carrying out a far right agenda, how did it get to this? Oh well, I'm never going to admit to that publicly so I'll respond and try and make him look silly again by asking for numbers and I'll cherry pick the skin colour thing and try and spin that back on him cos I have an answer that could be semi plausible for that one, but I'll have to ignore the religion thing cos that's not inherited so they might see through the response about skin colour? Yeah, but I have to reply with something and it's better than no response, so lets just go with that. Personally, I would say there comes a point where one stops trying to persuade people to get vaccinated. Some are just not going to do it.

The direction of travel in govt responses around the world is to open up / stop locking down, so basically the unvaccinated will no longer be protected by lockdown. They will then have a choice: eventually catch it and risk get seriously ill / die or get the jab.

Agree with all of that.

Don't know the answer, wish I did, but I do know going in the wrong direction won't get any of us to where we wish to get to.

And appreciate it is frustrating as fck. How the hospital or vaccination staff keep calm when some of the anti-vaccers get in their face I don't know. They are better people than me.

Firstly, your posts would be far easier to process if you used some paragraphs.

Your previous post was awful, I am surprised nobody has reported it to be honest. The false equivalence between genetics and religion was utterly ridiculous and it wasn't a good point as I highlighted, it was a very poor point comparing two incomparable things to a third thing which is supported by vast amounts of evidence.

This one isn't much better given you're accusing posters of carrying out a far right agenda by voicing the opinion based on fact that the unvaccinated are taking up a disproportionate amount of hospital resources (a fact you are yet to refute with any substance).

You've still not provided any evidence. I believe I've asked 3 times now. All you've done is ranted and raved and got upset that people don't agree with you whilst making out that you're somehow more intelligent than the rest of us.

My previous post was so "awful" to you, because it highlighted the behaviour and truly dark underbelly of all this, which you have made yourself a part of with your public views/expressions. It is a behaviour that you probably didn't realise you were displaying and that you would normally find abhorrent in others, but you are now wiser and able to do something about it, like the rest of the group, the question is, will you?

Of course, you'll all convince yourselves that this is completely different, but perhaps you should stop and have a real good think for a minute about what you are saying and doing and realise you are actually no different at all, they all probably believed what they were saying/doing was right too.

That's a lot of words to not really say anything.

Just provide evidence and data that supports your argument, it shouldn't be difficult.

Stop asking me to furnish you with information, you can lead a horse to water.....

This is the worst troll account we've had for some time. It's not even mildly amusing.

The others will all back me up and agree anyway, cos none of them are going to want to look stupid either, ok let's go, done"

Getting vaccinated is a far-right agenda? Someone else suggested it was a far left agenda (from communist scientists).

Some people really are paranoid…

Why would I stop asking you for evidence to prove your assertions?

That is how a debate, especially scientific ones work. I've provided evidence for my assertion, you've disputed it but repeatedly refused to provide evidence to support your views.

You're attempts to change the narrative into one citing an equivalence to racism and right wing views is frankly awful. It's especially odd given the right wing are hugely influential in the anti-vax movement.

Now, for the 4th time, please post some evidence for your assertions or stop making them.
