A very, very, good 1-1 draw away from home. Eddie Spearitt replaced Frank Brogan at half time. Ray Crawford scored our goal.
A pint to anyone who can identify the game, which was a justification of our right to be in the top division.

I presume it’s season 1968/69, not least because Crawford didn’t play in the top flight for too long in that final ITFC spell. I could look it up, which would be cheating, so I’ll guess Arsenal away?

Alania Vladikavkaz 1 - Ipswich 2, Feb 2002

Ipswich had a jolly in Cyprus for a week's training camp (FA cup weekend I think) and played a friendly against a Russian team. They played on an army garrison Dhekelia, and all proceeds went to The Army Benevolent Fund. I was based at RAF Akrotiri at the time as a teenager with my dad, and took a coachload with others from the camp across the island. It was like watching a Sunday league game, with players sat on plastic chairs and the few hundred fans stood on the touchline. We all got to meet the players, I chatted with Sheepshanks and Marshall, and went for a piss at half time not realising it was their changing rooms...so I had George and Reuser either side of me in the latrines. There was a good crowd of Norwich fans too supporting Alania

Marshall (Sereni)
Makin (Gaardsoe)
Hreidarsson
Clapham
Bramble
Holland
Magilton
George (Miller)
Wright (Reuser)
Counago
Stewart

Goals from George and Counago

If I remember rightly our report was written by a serviceman who may well have been on the same coach as you. Interesting first game!

Town 2 - 1 A Vladikavkaz 23rd Feb 2002 18:17
Town won the charity match against Alania Vladikavkaz 2-1, a game played in the warm afternoon sunshine at Dhekelia Army base, Cyprus. The Blues' goals came from Finidi George and Pablo Couñago. 0

Town: R Wright, , D Wright, McAuley, Balkestein, Garvan, Miller, Norris (Lisbie 64), Walters, Couñago, Stead (Haynes 72). Unused: Supple, Quinn,

A 0-0 at home against Plymouth in 2009 (I'd seen Plymouth play quite a few times due to family down that way, but had never managed to get to an Ipswich game due to other commitments). Tuesday night game and we picked my cousin up from Bedford on the way across.

I distinctly remember my friend at the time who was driving, doing 120mph on the motorway back home and me not enjoying it one bit. We drifted apart strangely enough. He was a Wolves fan so probably got the better deal in footballing terms!

I was at that game.
I was 9 then and i remember the Man U fans heading for the exits early an lobbing all sorts of debris into the corner of the west stand from outside. Also pre match, the Town players kicked autographed plastic footballs into the crowd. I managed to catch one that was proudly displayed in my bedroom for ages until it finally perished.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

We drew 2-2 after leading 2-0. Sounds familiar?

I was in the East stand with my Mum. My Dad insisted on going to his normal spot in Churchmans! As it was so crowded where I was, the Police allowed kids over the wall and onto the grass by the edge of the pitch, so I was literally inches from the likes of George Best, Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law and Nobby Stiles! Don't remember the autographed balls but I'll never forgot that experience.

I was at the game and was sitting in the West Stand (Pioneer, Co-op etc). I don’t remember a lot about it tbh. I was at the 4-1 game a few years later and remember that far more. We had a good team by then and the game was shown on Match of the Day, my grandparents had a big colour tv and I was allowed to stay up and watch it! Winning in the 1st Division was normal by then. Sigh.

25/11/72 Coventry City at home. Abandoned 61 minutes floodlight failure.

David Best
Mick Mills
Colin Harper

Alan Hunter
Kevin Beattie
Bryan Hamilton
Colin Viljoen
David Johnson MK1

Coventry were winning 1-0 at the time and Tommy Hutchison was ripping Mick Mills a new one on the wing.
