I strongly agree with this. I believe it best to try to post as if one was talking face to face with somebody.
You don’t have to agree. It’d pretty boring and pointless if that was the case. But trolling/stirring apart, there always should be respect for other people, however wrong or banal one might feel they are - and visa versa. If it gets repetitively annoying, there’s always the ignore button.
On a slightly different slant there was a topic the other day where myself and another poster were potentially getting into the realms of misunderstanding. I PM’d him and from my perspective, not only did I learn something, but it was clear that if we were ever to meet in person we’d get on well. This has happened for me with other people on here and something I’d recommend people do, if they feel a conversation may be straying.
However, there are a few people and a lot of non football topics on here I just won’t engage in now because of the abuse it generates and quite frankly I don’t need to waste my time on such people. |  | | |

With respect, I think the idea the forum is "out of control with the personal stuff" is nonsense. Until yesterday, it had been harmonious for months, barring one or two minor issues. Not sure what came over a number of posters yesterday that they seemed determined to start rows, restarting old spats and in this instance, for no reason that I could see, draw someone entirely uninvolved into an argument.
I don't disagree that posters should post as if they were interacting with other users face to face.
