Would you offer Celina a permanent deal in the summer? 14:10 - Feb 15 with 5485 viewshype313

Still got 2 years on his Dijon contract, but they are languishing in the second tier, could easily get pulled into another relegation.

We could probably get him at a reduced rate given their current plight.

I suppose it boils down to what league were in, if were still in League One, you would imagine he wouldn't fancy another year playing the likes of Fleetwood and fancies his chances higher up the divisions, if we manage to pull a play off win out of the bag then it's quite conceivable he would stay.

The question I will put out there is why isn't he playing at a higher level?

Fair point - but I'd imagine if he is enjoying his football and buys into the grand plan you never know...he clearly enjoys being here...

I'm fairly certain that he would have had offers to play at a higher level in the summer...maybe he enjoys being here and likes being one of the key players at an ambitious and upwardly mobile club where the fans (generally) love him?

We got 'lucky' with his COVID situation, the state of the Championship last summer and he had an affinity to the club. Hull and a couple of others were sniffing before it looked like he would be out for half a season. We then went the extra mile and put him through all sort of tests to ensure he could play earlier than originally anticipated (as I understand it).

He wouldn't be dropping down to play for any other L1 club, put it like that.

Think if you've got a chance of signing a player like him, which we have, however slim, you don't turn it down.

He can't put chances on a plate and then subsequently finish them - he's creating a lot.

He's currently 1st in the division for Assists per 90 minutes
8th in the division for expected assists per 90 minutes
2nd in the division for chances created per 90 minutes

And the fact he doesn't take set pieces means he'd be higher if just looking at open play

Quite surprised he's so high on those charts. 4 assists with 2 in 1 game. ( think it's 4)

Only if he took a pay cut.. That would also tell us, just how committed he is to the Club, and the vision, going forward.... It's obvious that his parent club can't afford him..And it's obvious that the town fans love him.. Reports suggest he's on £20k plus a week... As much as I like him. I don't think he's worth more than, Morsey, or Walton,.... And for 20k a week, we could have two decent players, or a really decent striker....... If Dijon want to off load him for a cut price deal and he was willing to take a pay cut, then, I'm ok with that..

He’s hardly looking amazing in League One is he though. You’d think given his ability he’d be averaging 2 goals a game in this terrible league. He’s a good player, but I’d say he’s being massively overpaid here for what he’s offering. When band average League One players such as Morsy, Harper, Evans and Edwards keep him out of the side he can’t be that useful can he?

I think if we don't get promotion our priority has to be a goalscorer and I think Celina is a luxury. Does he contribute that much more than Dozzell did. The odd defence splitting pass doesn't warrant paying a player £20,000 a week or whatever he's on. As was said on the Valentines Day Podcast. The defence has been sorted and to a certain extent if both Morsy and Evans play so has the midfield. But we still don't have that real goal threat of a Bent and Kuqi. Jackson was never prolific, but Norwood was, although not with Town and Bonne's contribution with regards to goals has dried up. I don't believe Celina is as good as his previous loan, but then he's playing in a muck and bullets league. Maybe he would be far more effective in the Championship. But that means us getting there. Which is currently on a knife edge.

Our conversion of loan to permanent for outfield players isn't great. Jimmy Bullard one such example that comes to mind

Do you have a link to this info, Joe? I can't track it down. You can work this out using the info on WhoScored but it's a bit more complicated because you have to divide the number of assists by the minutes played and multiply by 90.

I'm probably going to get a lot of thumbs down for this but I don't think he's been worth the extortionate wages that we're paying for him at all.

His goals and assists return has been very poor for a player of his calibre and I certainly expected more from him at this level.

Yup.

I'd like to see us go back to two up top with Celina behind on his own, I'm not sure we look as good with both Celina and Chaplin behind one striker. Harsh on Chaplin I know.

Would have had two assists at Doncaster if our strikers could finish ... I could go on and on, it takes two to make an assist stat. He's a level above almost anything in this division creatively, it's absolutely clear.

You've got absolutely no idea what we are paying for him.

I'd also point out he had no pre season and a serious bout of COVID and is still coming out on top/towards the top of assists/expected assists per 90 mins stats for the whole division.

You expect more than being the top assister in the division?!
