i was in Liverpool before Christmas and the bar we were in there was loads of people doing cocaine, i went to the toilet and there was people everywhere doing it and not giving a damn who saw them. I was a little taken aback when i saw that, i'd never seen people do it so openly before. There was people queuing to do it also.

Probably a combination of most of the things mentioned on the thread already - drink/drugs, desperation, being let of the leash again, mirroring tribalism that's been exacerbated by the media (BLM, etc)... My experiences mirror the article - things certainly seem to be worse. More open abuse aimed at players and fans also seem more antagonistic towards each other. Once most people went to go to football matches to support their team, now more go to abuse the opposition. I've been in some grounds where fans spend 90 mins facing each other off and barely pay any attention to the game. It's very odd.

There's certainly something in this. The latest Welsh crime figures were out yesterday and show a 20%+ increase in violent crime since the pandemic.

When I lived in Liverpool c.15 years ago coke seemed to be much more prevalent that anywhere else I had lived.

Its not just in Liverpool, it's everywhere these days. I used to live in London and the number of people that would just blatantly do it without even shutting the cubicle door was staggering. Likewise, many times when sat at a table with a group somebody would announce that they were off to participate and a couple of others would jump up to join in? This is in front of people who they barely know or don't know. I now live near the Forest of Dean and it is rife here as well. This is supposed to be a quiet backwater of England. Everywhere i go nobody seems to bother to hide it these days.

I was at Ascot just before lockdown and it was rife everywhere, the joke was that security guards had sniffer dogs by all the toilets, was completely moot given most people were sat on benches sniffing in open public. The only beer on offer was Stella, that added with Columbian marching powder, I made my excuses at 5 and left sharpish, as I could see that things were about to get out of hand...

In my old local (The Brickies) they used to spray some stuff on all the surfaces so the gear melted when you poured it out onto the surface.

I saw the same reports - but it's misleading surely as no fecker was out during the pandemic. Quite frankly I'm surprised the figure isn't higher.

The last sentence is the key now, it's so brazen now when and where people do it - no one hides it at all

I went to the Fury fight Saturday.... In the upper tier of Wembley, approx 30 mins before the ring-walk, the queue for the cubicles was twice that for the urinals. Saw a fair few people openly doing keys on and around Wembley Park station / Wembley Way too, despite, fairly hefty OB presence... There now appears to be a tacit acceptance that coke is here to stay, almost like the attitude towards weed 15 or so years ago. Atmosphere was immense regardless, despite a fairly crap fight - next to no aggro (certainly nothing along the lines of Italy in the summer), although I suppose pretty much everyone was there to watch Fury's de-facto coronation....

Sometimes backwaters can be the worst because there is nothing to do so people stuff bugle up their node instead. It is rife and so casual the way they do it, there was that infamous picture of a spurs fan snorting it off the match day programme at FT after their last game at Whiteheart Lane. Have to say I have found in turns one into a gibbering ar$e who can't STFU and then leaves you with a blocked nose for a week, I know ppl who are on it every weekend. My PT (why is it all PTs are also part time drug dealers) is big fan of it and he knows people, middle class, good jobs both earning well who get through £200 a weeks worth. I don't know how once can live with the constant cold

Totally agree. We have a society which affords few opportunities to many, with a very odd obsession with work, so it's no wonder that many see the weekend and football as one of their only outlets which leads to a culture of binge drinking and drug use. Now European cafe culture is more where it's at. No rushing to wolf down your meal deal in Spain, Italy or France. A much better work/life balance and fewer problems with violence, binging and problematic drug use. The weather probably helps too!

Because PTs can't rely on alcohol to have a good time so need something without calories in it

It needs to be stamped out, along with racism, homophobia, and so on. We need to be as aggressive towards the use of drugs in the grounds as we are abusive behavior and I suspect some of it is very much linked.
