We have a really well balanced squad, have made acquisitions in areas McKenna wanted to freshen things up in, haven’t over-bloated the squad like in previous years, haven’t put together an unbalanced squad like in previous seasons. Have only paid a fee for Harness, although imagine not highly substantial given his contract situation. Have moved Pigott out, Baggott has a good loan - a brilliant transfer window on the face of it.

Starting XI:

Walton
Donacien - Woolfenden - Edmundson
Burns - Morsy - Ball - Leigh
Chaplin - Harness
Ladapo

Subs: Hladky, KVY, Burgess, Evans, Aluko, TJJ, Edwards, Jackson, Hayes, Ndaba, Penney, Harper, El, Mizouni, Humphreys,

We’ll address the lack of options up front and it’s hardly a secret we’re looking for another attacking midfielder. Get those sorted and we’re pretty much done.

Totally agree. Another striker is a bit bigger priority than Celina but I'd still love the latter to be with us.

A striker and another left wing back and that will be us done. I could see Penney, El Miz and Harper being sent out on loan.

Only way that changes is if KVY had impressed enough to be the alternative option at left back.

Now harness has signed i think were covered for lwb. We need a new striker, as harness can cover the att mid and lwb positions it looks like there is potentially a little more budget for a striker rather than being spread over 2 or 3 signings

That would be a cool signing. Still a player over 21 in our squad has to be overlooked, loaned or sold to free up the space as we are 1 in 1 out on L1 rules.

Harper, El Miz, Edwards, Hughes ? all under threat of not making this years qualifying players. Hughes the obvious first make weight.

Harper seems surplus to requirements. El Miz could be a good utility player (can play various positions). Edwards - still not sure what he is meant to bring. Looks good but achieves very little. Hughes seems to have broken through - may be sent on loan?

LB/LWB
Celina (luxury)
Striker

LB/LWB and striker as must. Celina if we can get a deal done. Then that’ll be our lot.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Agree with this. Absolutely no idea why people think Harness can cover LWB.

I guess Humphreys could, but Harness is a right footed winger, not a LB.

Harness is a much of a wing-back as Edwards is. Trust me, he is signed for the roles either side of the striker

It’s certainly a much calmer window than last season’s shambolic mud at a wall fest - thank goodness.

Isn’t it calmer because of that though? If it hadn’t been for that cull we may still be moving the dead wood on now.

I agree. And unintentionally, it showed that Cook didn't have the tactics even with a good budget, leading to McKenna.

This year has to be better surely...

I don't quite get this. So many are assuming that ladopo Jackson and John jules are duds are they?

Harness can cover RWB but KVY could cover the LWB couldn't he?

I think striker is the one pressing concern. I can't see any of Jackson, Ladapo, Chaplin nor Harness being the main striking option we need. We need a regular goal scorer.

Not at all. But, JJ is raw, nobody really knows what to expect from him, he could be our wildcard but we can’t throw a weight of expectation on him to be our prolific 20+ goal scorer. The jury is still out on Jackson, KM clearly gave him a new lease of life last season but he only played a handful of games, and is still not prolific enough in front of goal. Ladapo I’m sure will be the best of the lot but even at Rotherham he was in the shadow goals-wise to Smith.

Take injuries into account and we will look very lightweight in this area.

Simple matter of fact is we DO need 1 more striker, and I’m sure MA and KM know this. I fully expect one to come in, and I think it will be our biggest statement signing of the window.

It will be, no doubt about it. I’m not particularly enamoured with the business we’ve done but the solidity that comes with less upheaval throughout the club should be a huge plus let alone the improvement in coaching practices and team squad unity.

Good points. It's interesting how chaplin scored what 12 goals last season, was in and out of the team under cook and was played as a centre forward at Barnsley and Coventry.

Pretty sure JJ will play left side of the 3 rather than the main man.

We know what Jackson offers with his pace but definitely feel like we need another all rounder to challenge Ladapo. Epsecially for League one.

I haven't seen anyone suggest they're duds. But certainly Jackson and JJ don't provide any evidence they'll be regular goalscorers. Ladopo I don't know enough about, but even if he is you still need a backup.

We've got rid of Norwood, Bonne and Pig so you need as good (but preferably better) coming in. We may have that but there's not a lot you could genuinely hang your hat on.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
