I had a meeting yesterday with a bloke in Brum and he asked where I was from and you guessed it - he replied "Oh, The Tractor Boys"
It is a Sky induced nickname so I doubt it will ever go away, it is demeaning - Magic Jim Magilton hated it.

The horses? I've heard Tim Lovejoy refer to ipswich as the horses in some weird attempt to be edgy and funny on Soccer AM, but I can't say I've ever heard us referred to as that by anyone remotely normal. |  |

Indeed, but that was the nickname they tried to push for us, not Tractor Boys, that was from the seats* as a reaction to the yokelist abuse were receiving at Leeds most notably following promotion. Media elsewhere did pick up on it, obviously, but wasn't something of their invention.

I remember hearing it was a move by the FA to get more harmony/unity inside England matches. Between fans and also to lessen the old 'one club's fans hating on another club's player being in the team etc'.
Think it was meant to be to lighten things up but as always, massively overplayed like Chelsea Dagger. |  |

Story is correct about its geographical origin, but I agree the date is wrong. Was in place by 97 as I remember someone I worked with then asking me about it. He suggested that with the Punch and water on the badge, that Seahorses would be a better alternative.
