I’ll say it right now 11:08 - Jul 27 with 5116 views | dominiciawful | If they play Sweet Caroline at Portman Road this season I will run onto the pitch and carry out a dirty protest on the centre spot. I’m just not having it.

I’ll say it right now on 11:43 - Jul 27 by Lord_Lucan | I absolutely hate Tractor Boys I had a meeting yesterday with a bloke in Brum and he asked where I was from and you guessed it - he replied "Oh, The Tractor Boys" It is a Sky induced nickname so I doubt it will ever go away, it is demeaning - Magic Jim Magilton hated it. ......but I do quite like Sweet Caroline |
Has exactly today from an elderly Leeds fan. Had to be polite when correcting him about the origin being completely false Sky bobbins. Will never chant that "gonna make some noise" chant either.

It didn't come from Sky, Sky called us 'the Horses' at around that time. Tractor Boys came from the terraces!

I disagree. We were all seater then for a start. So respectfully, you've already given us a lie there.

I'm with Mullet It was Jeff Stelling with things like - "Ok, let's see how The Tractor Boys are doing"

The horses? I've heard Tim Lovejoy refer to ipswich as the horses in some weird attempt to be edgy and funny on Soccer AM, but I can't say I've ever heard us referred to as that by anyone remotely normal.

Borrowed from cricket where it had become a staple, albeit an overplayed one, of T20 cricket, particularly domestically. Sometimes it works, hard to watch Ellen White singing along in tears of joy and not think that that was the right time and place for it.

Indeed, but that was the nickname they tried to push for us, not Tractor Boys, that was from the seats* as a reaction to the yokelist abuse were receiving at Leeds most notably following promotion. Media elsewhere did pick up on it, obviously, but wasn't something of their invention. *Happy now, Mullet?

Town fans sang it before 2000, think the accepted first airing was around 1998 at Birmingham, as per the earlier post.

I remember hearing it was a move by the FA to get more harmony/unity inside England matches. Between fans and also to lessen the old 'one club's fans hating on another club's player being in the team etc'. Think it was meant to be to lighten things up but as always, massively overplayed like Chelsea Dagger.

....end of the 7th inning for about 25 years. I joined in with it when I was there. I also joined in at Portman Road, when I saw Neil Diamond there in 2005. Other than that it's unacceptable.

Story is correct about its geographical origin, but I agree the date is wrong. Was in place by 97 as I remember someone I worked with then asking me about it. He suggested that with the Punch and water on the badge, that Seahorses would be a better alternative. Encouraged by his liking of the band of the same name, which was very much a 1997 phenomenon
