Only until recently though, it was that way at least for Charles' generation unless I'm mistaken.

For a minute I thought they meant Wallis Simpson, as her Edward definitely seemed to be on the Nazi sympathiser side...

Only our elected MP’s can overturn this. Getting fed up with people constantly linking fake news without bothering to check the facts. You’re not Harry10 ffs. |

Makes you proud to be British doesn't it? on 08:55 - Sep 16 by bluelagos | I'll put you down as someone proud to have a friend of a convicted paedo as a Counsellor of State. |
No he isn’t. He is calling you out for spreading fake news. King Charles is bound by the Regency Act 1937, as amended in 1943, which stipulates that the counsellors of state are the monarch’s spouse and the four next in line to the throne above the age of 21. Charles has no say in the matter; responsibility rests instead with our elected masters in parliament who can amend such laws. You are normally big enough to own up to your mistakes. Not double down on them. Republicans really seem to be losing their sh1t this week. I think the mass mourning and crowds have shown that the monarchy is as popular as ever and is here to stay and they’d Re really struggling with that realisation.

Yeah, I think reading it again, Zapers is referring to Meghan. But agree that it’s still a very dodgy framing so maybe Zapers can clear that up.

I thought he meant Virginia Giuffre*, one of the real victims in the evil sex-trafficking set-up organised by Epstein & G, Maxwell. Re your other point - the issue of gender & succession was amended by law (in 2013 I think) but wasn't made retrospective, so as Anne was obvs born in the previous century, it doesn't apply to her. I think she'd be reasonably satisfied that her & her late Mum's example of dedicated hard work was one of the catalysts for change (for the record, Anne was recently calculated to be the hardest working royal apart from the Queen, in terms of engagements, work for charities etc). *Edit - was still typing when Zapers posted that he didn't mean her. Quite. This is highlighting the worse of twitter, but then that's nothing we don't already know. Of course it's grim that he should still be in that role, but he's entitled to be and has been automatically by law since he turned 21 in 1981. He disgusts me and I think he's lucky to be free, but I don't get a say. That's the problem with hereditary entitlement, it means he's entitled and there's nothing we can do about it.

I think 9 times out of 10 when I see something on Twitter, there's some quite credible replies that debunk whatever has been been shared in the initial tweet. It's not about what side of the fence you sit, but we really do live in an era of fake news and a time where people are too willing to take things they read at face value. It's dangerous.

I think that’s certainly true of Twitter threads that get big enough to escape whatever echo chamber they could otherwise happily remain in. Or when the Tweeter is followed by people across the board. But I’m never logged on in Twitter and use it to search for subjects rather than following people per se. So I still stumble on an awful lot of threads and replies that don’t escape the tribe talking to itself and it’s pretty extreme, unchallenged guff as a result. If people have even a minority of their views “informed” and reinforced like this, then it’s still a massive problem. Edit: And I hear that Facebook is a lot worse for this. But I haven’t really been using FB for much over the past few years so maybe someone else can confirm or deny. [Post edited 16 Sep 2022 12:32]
