Sharp rise in disorder at football games in England and Wales last season on 14:10 - Sep 26 by noggin

It probably depends on the quantities taken of each drug. Both are highly addictive to certain individuals, and both are harmful to health. Addicts will neglect their health and wellbeing regardless.

Don't get me wrong, this is no defense of alcohol, or UK govt. drug policy. I am merely pointing out the flaw in Dollers' "look at these articles" arguments which clearly take into account the prevelance of alcohol use.

Heroin once carried a '1 in 4 users get addicted' warning. It is demonstrably proven, again and again, to be harder to use heroin responsibly than using alcohol responsibly.

As an addict myself, I am well aware of the how addiction causes such difficulties not just to health but relationships, work and society at large.

Like LagosBlue just linked from the article:

"The harm from smoking and alcohol is largely down to markedly higher prevalence"

I have a question for you. If you were to have a smoker who smoked a pack of 20 a day and a cocaine user who done 20 lines a day. Who would be physically and mentally worse off if you were to go back to them in a year?

Even comparing how addictive each is, is impossible imho. I imagine 99% of first time heroin users will have some form of serious mental health struggles, which will make them vulnerable to addiction. Drinking is generally sociable for most people. Heroin use is almost always to block mental illness symptoms.

Eh? That doesn't make any sense. I've studied the effects and dangers of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs. I suspect I'm trying to educate someone who's done little more than read a few Daily Mail articles.

I can't find the links now and am not going to waste my time searching for people who are just going to dismiss them, but you're more likely to die prematurely from smoking cigarettes (they're proven to cause cancer) than you are from having a few lines of charlie.

The mental health reasoning is hard to argue with, it's true.

People who have suffered immense trauma have sought ways to dull the pain and it's not that uncommon to be so desperate for people to try anything.

There are also some people who try it and continue to use because they simply like the effect.

One thing I've not understood on this thread though is how so many posts contain both heroin and cocaine as though they're somehow related. Not many people who can afford to be using cocaine regularly would be the same types to be knocking up heroin.

Generally speaking socially worlds apart for just about every reason going.

I have known a few heroin addicts in the past and have to say the common theme was they would stop at nothing to get a fix.

The alcohol Vs heroin use debate doesn't work either. Not to disagree with the widespread damage alcohol has had on many lives, it's comparing completely different things entirely used in completely different circumstances.

Likewise using 'cocaine' and not differentiating between crack cocaine and powder cocaine.

I was a raver in the nineties so I'm not a stranger to drugs, ecstasy was my drug of choice.

A good friend of mine was addicted to coke by the early noughties and it completely changed him as a person.

I'm not downplaying the longterm effects of smoking, but I know I'd rather be addicted to that than cocaine.

Seeing firsthand what coke can do I'll say it again your claims are laughable.

Got to go I've got a few Daily Mail articles to read.

Indeed, I've said similar earlier in the thread. Ignorant types will just lump all "drugs" into one pot as if they're all the same thing. The same types many of which don't even think of tobacco and alcohol as drugs because of their legal status.

Unless you are doing coke all day every day, then you'd be no different to smoking at those times.

Anyone doing coke all day every day, or smoking all day every day, is going to be having problems - those who just do either socially won't be in reality

Erm cocaine can cause cancer, and there you are claiming you've done studies on the subject.
