Chips are also, as yet, not proven to have contributed to the rise in football related disorder, though I did see a row break out at the van near the North Stand once, but it was more mustard related than drug driven.

Sharp rise in disorder at football games in England and Wales last season on 11:28 - Sep 25 by itfcjoe | Because lots of the Govt and scientist backed restrictions were clearly bonkers - go out for dinner but you have to wear a mask to walk to the toilet, if you come back from this country you need a test, but if you fly there then on to someone else and home you don’t need one, that you could work with someone all day but not go for a walk with them. The point is clear - the Govt and scientists make decisions, some don’t make sense and you can either choose to follow them, or choose not to, but it’s no different to think their scientific approach on drugs is outdated/wrong compared to their one on covid - both have clear holes in |
As I said, "the same approach perhaps", but I evaluate everything on its individual merits. You are giving Joe Joe too much credit to say my belief in drug legalisation is analogous with what he was saying in dismissing Covid restrictions. I don't deny there were some holes but that's a long way from Joe Joe's 'lift it all and let rip' approach because it inconvenienced him.

I've explained away all of his points, as I have yours, which is why neither of you have come back with anything. The idea that being in favour of lifting all restrictions and letting Covid let rip is the same as making drugs legal is fu.ckwitted logic.

I'm totally in favour of the legality of chips! But yeah, I'm generally in favour of the Covid restrictions. That's not about government, it's about science (and largely logic). If we applied science to both then most of the restrictions saved lives... and decriminalisation of certain drugs (and allowing quality versions) would also save lives and cut crime.

"Alcohol and tobacco are by far the biggest threat to human health around the world, while illegal drug harms “don’t even come close”, a major report on addictive substances has found. The Global Statistics on Alcohol, Tobacco, and Illicit Drug Use: 2017 Status Report found a quarter of a billion hours of healthy human life are lost each year because of smoking and drinking, ten times more than is lost to illicit drug use" https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/alcohol-drinking-smoking-drugs-addicti Are you still laughing?

Dolly - am largely with you on the absurdity of the UK drugs legislation, the benefits from decriminalising the drug trade and the nonsense of people blindly arguing "drugs are bad" whilst enjoying a pint etc. But that report is far from the silver bullet you think it is. It clearly states that "The harm from smoking and alcohol is largely down to markedly higher prevalence" Alcohol / smoking being worse than illegal drugs isn't shown in that article. Just that the overall damage is worse.

Fine, it's the first article I came to, there are plenty of others. Here's one that puts alcohol as way more harmful than crack cocaine and heroin; http://www.drugs.ie/news/article/alcohol_more_dangerous_than_cocaine_or_heroin A new study found alcohol was the most dangerous of 20 legal and illegal drugs when the two criteria of harm to the user and harm to others were combined. Alcohol is more dangerous than crack cocaine and heroin when damage to users themselves and to wider society are combined, a study has found. The research, published yesterday in the Lancet medical journal, rated alcohol almost three times as harmful as cocaine or tobacco and some eight times as harmful as ecstasy. Like LagosBlue just linked from the article: "The harm from smoking and alcohol is largely down to markedly higher prevalence" I have a question for you. If you were to have a smoker who smoked a pack of 20 a day and a cocaine user who done 20 lines a day. Who would be physically and mentally worse off if you were to go back to them in a year? It's so disingenuous to suggest alcohol is more harmful than crack cocaine or heroin. Again, your link (which is broken) states that it is in combining the danger to the user and danger to society which leads to the conclusion alcohol is more harmful. That clearly takes into account the prevalence of alcohol use. [Post edited 26 Sep 2022 14:06]

How many cocaine users do 20 lines a day? Comparing the harm in that way is impossible. There are far too many variables.

It probably depends on the quantities taken of each drug. Both are highly addictive to certain individuals, and both are harmful to health. Addicts will neglect their health and wellbeing regardless.
