A question of etiquette- World Cup viewing. 15:24 - Dec 5 with 5978 views | MattinLondon | We have a couple of my partners friends coming over for the weekend. Both are football fans but have both decided to boycott the WC - that’s their call to make. Would you watch the England match on the big brilliant telly and kinda force them to watch. Or should I retire to the bedroom to watch alone? My partner, likes football as well, but she only watches the big international match as well and she wants to watch as well. What would you do?

A question of etiquette- World Cup viewing. on 16:37 - Dec 5 by J2BLUE | Bit convenient to drop in just as England are playing. I would just tell them the football will be on. I'm sure they will be secretly thrilled. |
It's weird how snidey some people have been during this world cup about the people who are just quietly sticking to their principles. It's not as if they're blockading pubs or cutting broadband cables, so I don't really get some of the hostility I've seen towards them on here. To answer OP, just tell them that you're aware of their feelings, but you will be watching. They're welcome to come over during or after but the game will be on. Up to them then. Watch it on the big screen, obviously on 16:46 - Dec 5 by MattinLondon | They probably already do that. Very ethical, never fly etc. |

Wearing nothing but a St George jester hat, obviously.

A question of etiquette- World Cup viewing. on 16:44 - Dec 5 by Radlett_blue | We accepted a dinner invitation for Saturday evening; 7:30 start. The host is a sweaty & I doubt his wife is interested in football. Going to have to suck this one up, I guess. |
You'd think they'd support the Auld Alliance in the hope they give England a walloping.

A question of etiquette- World Cup viewing. on 15:27 - Dec 5 by giant_stow | Watch the game on the big telly. If I were them and I'd feel more awkward if you disappeared off to the bedroom. In any case, their chocie is for them and its your house, so their morals are immaterial there - you're almost doing them a Favour: they get to watch the footy and not break their code.. |
this. you're doing them a favour and they're only watching it to be polite. win win.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

“ or they could find something else to do for a couple of hours.” That could end up a better watch than the footie

My Scottish friend just phoned me & I was hoping he'd say "As I'm sure you will want to watch the football, shall we cancel"? Sadly, he didn't but it's just the 4 of us so I think I will suggest we arrive at 7pm for drinks so I might get to see the first half.

They are both quite decent people who happen to have strong principles and stick with them. Being honest, at times I could do without some of their comments, but on the whole they are both likeable and friendly.
