We could put them in Evans' box?

We're charging Oxford £27/£20/£14/£7 for their tickets on Boxing Day, which is the same as we charge for tickets in Cobbold A/B and Pioneer P/Q/R.

Them's the rules, you have to charge away fans the same as you do home supporters for similar sections. That one of the sections they get is towards the middle and consequently priced higher is why away fans often claim our prices are excessive.

This is the issue, hence the work on turnstiles behind the Sir Alf Stand. Away fans will ultimately be somewhere in there, perhaps split between the tiers.

Surely that isn’t viable with the design of the stand and where the new turnstiles are going to be.

And also having away fans behind the goal should be a big no no as it’s a little win to be attacking a goal with your fans behind.

I have to say that I could never stand the sight of Matt Richards playing for Ipswich, and that video reminds me why.

We also gave a far larger chunk of the Cobbold than usual when we played Gillingham in the League Cup 4th round in 1996. Gills fans were a good proportion of the 13,537 crowd. Sound puny now but then Town were averaging less than 12,000 in the league at the time.

....along the front of the Cobbold.

They'll struggle to create any atmosphere spread along there.

They'll have to get rid of the crappy boxes along there though.

Thanks for recap. To the people moaning about placement of away fans… where do they think we should put them?

Quite, it's a really random thing to complain about. Maybe it's a sign there's nothing much that's genuinely worth complaining about right now...?

It makes sense from a financial point of view as well.

As I understand it, we cannot charge more for away tickets than we would for home tickets in an equivalent section, so sticking them where we do would prove more profitable than giving them seats in either the SAR or SBR.

The SBR ! wash your mouth out do

On the subject of away fans, wasn't there some directive or other being considered by the Prem / EFL that away fans must have seats that spread down to the pitchside?

We do this when we give the little section in front of the boxes, but I think the directive was aimed at the likes of Sunderland and Newcastle who put the away fans at nearer to passing aircraft than the pitch.

Think of all the stewarding needed when they decide to get on the side of the pitch when their team scores though...

they're fine where they are now I think, love them up the other end next to SBR but that'll never happen again..

I don't know quite how the new set-up will look with the turnstiles but the changes are aimed at being able to move away fans into that stand.

Away fans from any club are that clubs best fans. If every club accepted that idea then logically the away tickets should be in some of the better if not best seats at that price point. Treat the away fan base well and expect the same back from teams you visit. That would be a good ethos.
As for the Cobbold - it's far from the best; but it is a decent location. I suspect longer term they'll be in Churchmans and my dad wil revolve another turn in his grave

I agree with you. Plus sometimes away fans are people who live locally and only see their team in action very occasionally. They might stay with the club if the experience is good and the teams land up in different divisions.

I think elderly away fans are generally (though not always!) a civilizing influence, and some of them - not disabled exactly but short of a bit of puff - would prefer the option of sitting somewhere without a huge number of steps to climb. (Is there's a lift in Cobbold? If so, apologies, we missed it.)

S block is offered for away ambulant disabled, which would include elderly ( per our safe seating space at our own away games), but take-up has been low.

Guess the plan to move the away fans into the SAR is all linked in with the redevelopment of the Cobbold. Needing somewhere else to put them whilst that’s underway, and then not wanting them where the best facilities and corporates are once it’s completed and looking to cash in on the new stand.

Makes sense to put them there, worst legroom in the ground in that stand but as they generally do not sit it's not an issue.

The stand is more than 50 years old and it shows. Access inside the stand, facilities and most of all legroom is not the best. Where they are now is the least worst option.

There’s no ideal place to put away fans. On the roof with tethers maybe? Novel and exciting, if a little brisk in winter.

When the back of Churchmans is opened up allowing more entry points, how about giving them the corner of that? A sort of throwback to when North Stand was partly sectioned off for away fans. Just a thought.
