I think strikers who have an aerial presence, physicality AND are good with their feet, can pass, are valuable in this league.

Perfect control and supply to Morsy who fluffed his shot.

He also did what Ladapo doesn’t and that is get in front of his marker.

Could be a great signing.

But he’s clearly not match fit he was clearly blowing by the end.

I'd second that.

Agree, also I liked that at a throw in he made a run in front of his marker but JD did not spot it and was very slow in eventually taking the throw in, something that no doubt will be worked on in training. I like the way he finds space and will be very difficult for defenders to mark.

Reminded me a bit of Stead.

Height, strength, pace, work rate and a good touch.

Would love to see him in a two. Trying to work out how though…

Walton
Donacien - Woolfenden - Burgess
Burns - Morsy - Evans - Davis
Chaplin
Broadhead - Hirst

Maybe?

Second that. Nice to be able to look at things objectively now the initial last minute goal disappointment is wearing off.

Contrary to what the bed wetters thought. He didn’t score and therefore he’s rubbish.

Looked exactly what we need.

As you say, he's one who'll get in front of his marker, but I got the feeling he was coming looking for the ball a bit too much yesterday, particularly given he looks a bit short of match fitness.

Needs to play right up on the centre backs for me, at the moment, until/unless he gets a bit more mobility, and leave the space in front of the defenders to the 10s. Ladapo can pull defenders around as a 9, but I think Hurst's role needs to be a bit more physical.

Match fitness a real issue. Need him up to speed as soon as possible. Looks a much better player than Ladapo.

Agreed. Thought the flow of the game changed when he came on. A bit of a scratchy 39 minutes for me. Thought the cynical yellow and the mistakes that preceded it were poor but did some god too.

Yes I thought he done well. Loads of effort and a few nice touches. Didn't cleanly win many headers but certainly made sure the defenders didn't either and looked as though he may cause defences issues. Good start for him to build on hopefully.

i had a quick look back at the replay as I recalled that he was pretty close to scoring after he came on - indeed at 74.15 he just needed to sort his feet to divert the ball in - he got the right side of his marker certainly - I was pretty encouraged at that point.

But let’s not forget why we got the corner that we ultimately scored from….

I wasn’t overly impressed at the time, but that was mainly due to the fact that his first touch really let him down, but that’s something that should improve as he trains and plays regularly. What I really liked was the runs he made, because I’ve moaned a lot about people not attacking the near post and one of the first things he did was make a very good run to the near post and give himself a chance to get a shot off. Completely different player to Ladapo, but is more like what we need up front IMO, great aerial presence, quick, makes good runs and gives defenders a lot more to worry about than Ladapo does, will be interesting to see how he develops in the next few weeks. Would also like to see Broadhead as I’ve no idea what his style of play is, but we need options and goals.

How much have we missed height up front in the season until yesterday, do people think? Iirc it's just TJJ & Jackson who have that & played this season to date.

Can’t judge on short cameo yesterday.

Gave the ball away in his hold up a little, played in Morsy to a good position. Gave a physical presence.

Need more time to be able to give any fair assessment.

I saw him playing for Blackburn once starting and he did very little and was replaced at half time I believe and once when he came on and again was poor and didn't chase back and looked lazy, but KMc knows best just hope he's right.

It did. I wasn’t keen on the way we started just looking for a long out ball to Hirst. It pretty much always came straight back at us. That may say more about the stage of the game and is dropping deeper than it does about Hirst though.

The issue Hirst faced was that he had Sam Morsy playing off him rather than a genuine forward. The chance Morsy scuffed aside, that limited our ability to play the game in Plymouth's half and really threaten a second goal. I thought Hirst looked decent, he's a big lad but his movement looked good to me. Think he could be an important player over the next 20 games.

How can a young fit athlete be blowing after 33 minutes of not particularly intense running? I’m delighted he’s here and pray he scores a hatful but commenting that he was struggling after 33 minutes is just silly. Typical football cliche

He may come good. But I wouldn't say he did anything of note that Ahadme didn't do when he came on for his debut.

I'm sure he will end up a better signing for what we need after we spent the whole summer chasing him etc but I can't see how anyone can say they saw much from sat.

a niche perspective

It's often easier to see things when you're at the ground watching the game, mate.
