Club will think twice before doing something like that again I’d imagine

Meant to be a warm 11°c in Ipswich on Saturday.

I thought it would’ve sold well, £6 including a pie and a pint, bargain.

If I lived in, or close to Ipswich, then I'd 100% go.

It's not worth a 10 hour round trip though.

Each to their own.

Watching it on my laptop for £10 or watching it with others having a beer whilst consuming a pie for £6 seems a good deal.

Guess it depends where you're based. Even though I'm local ish it would still be half an hour drive each way, bit of petrol plus parking. It is great value to be fair, but I'll go for the better food options at home, nicer beers from my fridge and more leg room than I can shake a stick at.

If shaking your stick is something you like doing during a game, you're probably right to stay home and do that.

Just seen they've apparently now sold approx 1,500 tickets for it, so I would imagine possibly more atmosphere watching in those kind of numbers than most people would fit in their lounge?

For context that's about 50% of the regular home game attendance at Forest Green. No disrepect to them but personally I think that's quite impressive.

Or people prepared to travel to Cambridge, but not (further in some cases) to Ipswich to sit in a stand watching a screen (but yes, this also links in to your IPTV/VPN point).

Edit- it’s about time we had a sensible streaming solution in football. Covid showed the way. It’s nuts that all clubs now stream but UK-based fans have to find workarounds.
[Post edited 30 Jan 2023 9:10]

The fairly straight forward answer is iFollow, a fair portion of fans are going to prefer that and maybe a takeaway in their own home to going to the stadium to watch on a big screen, whether the price is good or not

A beam back is simply less appealing than it once would have been?

Who knows, it's an interesting experiment from the club

What will the clubs offer be as an alternative to iFollow next season, is it likely to be cheaper or about the same

I guess time will tell on that one but you'd certainly expect a better product

Edit: Having found a stream for the cup game, I do see the benefits of iFollow now

I had it down in my head that Cambridge was an evening game, it's actually a Saturday kick off

For £6, that is a bargain to be fair

I don’t understand how they can be making any dosh by giving a free pie and pint as part of the deal

Let me think about that for a moment, a 400 mile round trip to sit in the cold to watch the game on a screen at PR with a pint that the bar staff won’t be able to serve quick enough and a cold pie or stay at home and watch it from the comfort of my own living room, saving myself £70 in fuel and as much beer as I can drink or be bothered to fetch from my fridge?

I know which one I’ll choose if I can’t be at the game in person!

Blimey, Ely to Ipswich is 200 miles? Which way do you go?

I'm a gold card holder that hasn't been to the Abbey before, and was well up for that.

However whilst I think this is a really good idea, I don't have the same desire to visit PR to watch it on a screen.

Well yeah obviously, that would be stupid.

Don’t get the replies about ‘ooo wouldn’t travel for that’ well goes without saying doesn’t it, marketed for local people.

Stuff isn't sold at cost price you know

Somewhile back the quote was 60p a pie, and current wholesale price for beer is around £1.15 a pint - though I am not sure if any tax is further added.

So on the basic price the club will be well up, though it does then have to factor in staff costs etc

There is also the thought that many attendees will buy a few more drinks so the club will be ahead, money wise.

However I doubt it is being put on as any money making idea, more a way of offering supporters something extra

Why would the pie be cold? I've never had a cold pie at PR - in fact if anything they're usually too hot!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
